I reckon a week off and a focus all week on this game will pay dividends...a fresh Robbo n Gomez and squad hungry to knock off Arsenal of their mini-perch. I smell Arsenal blood all over the pitch....

Arsenal have played pretty well this season and are showing a bit more resolve than in recent seasons.
They have some very good options in attack and have a decent midfield and decent defence (depending on who the put at the back that is)
But when we put out our strongest XI, we are strong in every department now.
We play to our ability and they play to their best ability, and it should be a game in which we get tested for periods but still have more than enough to get the win.
With a week to prepare, I think our starting XI pretty much picks itself.
Alisson
TAA
Gomez
VVD
Roberston
Fabinho
Wijnaldum
Shaqiri
Mane
Firmino

It's a really well balanced side. Auba is bang in form so need to keep him quiet, Ozil usually goes missing in big games so we shall see. We need to see that helter skelter tempo and they won't be able to handle us. I think we are better than them all over the pitch, a win here would be huge.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostArsenal have played pretty well this season and are showing a bit more resolve than in recent seasons.

Yeah we are better in all departments for me too. The only area in the pitch where they, at best, come close to matching us in is attack, but it is only coming close rather than matching.
Auba is on a hot streak alright, but I think Lacazette is maybe more of a threat as his runs and clever link play seems to be helping make a lot of space for Aubameyang.
Said in a while back in the general footy forum that I would love to have Lacazette in our squad. He would be great cover for Bobby up front, and I think he would thrive in the set up we are using of late with Bobby in the deeper role.
Course the same could be said about Aubameyang I guess.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yeah the boys up top are quality alright, just popped Auba into my FF team too, I think he'll bang 20+ in this season. I think we can get at their midfield & if the 3 lads are on form... I will be shocked if we don't score. It'll be a tough game though.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostYeah we are better in all departments for me too. Hasn’t that ‘streak’ lasted around 4 years nowOriginally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostYeah we are better in all departments for me too. The only area in the pitch where they, at best, come close to matching us in is attack, but it is only coming close rather than matching.

Well probably closer to six or seven years if we are looking at his overall career, but I was only on about his time at Arsenal and more specifically his current run of 7 goals from his last 7 league games when I mentioned streak.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think Milner will start, probably at the expense of shaqiri or Fabinho. I'd like to see shaq start.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostArsenal have played pretty well this season and are showing a bit more resolve than in recent seasons.

------------Alisson
Gomez Lovren-VVD--Roberston
--------------Gini
---------Milner----Shaqiri
Salah -------Firmino------ Mane
is my punt. Think Gomez/Lovren is stronger and in better form than TAA/Gomez.
Think we'll revert back to the end of last season formation/pressing game so think only 1 new signing in the middle rather than 2. Fabinho/Gini/Milner wouldn't surprise me either.

I hope we play a back four of
TAA - Gomez - VVD - Robertson
We'll be up against Auba on the left and we need loads of pace at the back, Lovren will just hack at his heels.
In midfield, if Hendo is still unavailable, I think it will be
Gini - Fab - Milner
With usual front three.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I don't think Shaqiri will start, I think we will revert to a more solid, defensive midfield 3 of Milner, Fabinho and Gini. Shaqiri can then come on against tired legs to cement the victory.
Back 4 will probably see Gomez at RB, as he is the more solid defensively than TAA (who will see more action against the "sit back" clubs), and Lovren partnered with VVD, alongside Robertson.
Front 3 as per usual.
Keeper is a no-brainer also.
