Welcome to the siteOriginally posted by fabinho View PostApart from Napoli. If people aren't worried by now, they really should be. We've been a shadow of the side last season, but somehow, by some minor miracle, we still find ourselves near the top of the table.
If we don't sort this **** out sharpish we're going to start losing ground quickly, but I just don't see it. Something is fundamentally wrong at the moment. I see us having a massive battle to finish in the top 4 this season, it's definitely not nailed on like we thought.
It's mad to think that something is "fundamentally wrong" given how many points we've picked up this season, but I reluctantly agree. Post World Cup hangover?
What worried me most from yesterday was how we never corrected the glaring weakness in midfield. Everyone gets the team wrong every now and then, but the failure to see it and fix it was shocking.

If Klopp is at fault in anything, its thats he is way too loyal (& a bit stubborn); It was glaring that Lalana shouldn't be anywhere near the 1st team & that isn't on last nights performance, its since he returned in October. Persisting with him has hampered us. Shaq should have gone & played last night, it's a big misjudgment & very complacent.
Fabinho, Milner, Wij should have been the midfield last night & if that didn't work bring Keita on.
Big missed opportunity last night to make the next month slightly easier on the players.
The Matip inclusion was a strange one also, was Lovren injured?

Klopp takes the blame mostly for me for last night.
The team he put out and the way he set up.
It felt like he under-estimated how hard it would be.
Barely do I think he has got something wrong but I did last night.
Not taking Shaqiri because we were worried that they'd react due to his heritage was a mistake too.
I can only presume he didn't want to risk Keita.

I think the big thing missing has been our pressingOriginally posted by Irishnev View PostAway with work so will go out for a pint to calm down now
but let me be the first to rant.
I said it earlier we have had great results s far this season but us fans know (if you don't you are lying to yourself) that we haven't been good this season. we all thought that we were managing games and holding back and when we needed to we could just click again......maybe not.
The front three have been shocking, missing easy passes to each other, making bad decisions and also been greedier than last season. Mane has been infuriating from time to time especially tonight.
Our midfield is lacking the drive and dynamism from last season and they are not connecting to the forwards at all. Maybe Hendo can improve that - who the **** knows. Lallana is not the answer to any question and good as Milner is he needs to be managed as surely his legs are feeling it.
I said it during the game but how much of an impact did Buvac have on our attacking play. I remember reading that he was the "brain" behind all the attacking drills that made the off the cuff stuff seem off the cuff when in fact it was drilled into them repeatedly.
Tonight has been coming, don't doubt it. This isn't knee jerk and as I said anyone who has watched all the games could see it. Our defence was a little off tonight and didn't save us and we were made to pay.
I don't think the wheels will fall off but the CL might be over for us now which might help with the league but we need to shake things up especially in midfield.
I know some on here have claimed our play has evolved and we are changing into something different (a **** show??) but for me what sparked much of our attacking play was high intensity pressing. That started not only with the forwards but was immediately followed by the midfielders pushing up
Its just not there this season, the midfield is sitting off teams so even if the forwards do start a press theres no follow up. Its very important you press as a unit because that then allows you to win the ball in areas that matter
This season has for me been eerily similar to Rodgers season after we finished second, the pressing for him vanished and much of our attacking play was stymied as a result
Injuries have conspired against us with Chamberlain being out and Henderson being in and out but we really need to start showing more intensity in the midfield
There was a stat last night on twitter that Wijnaldum, Milner & Lallana didnt win a tackle in the first half, dont know how that turned out in the second half but its almost impossible to comprehend how a midfielder cannot win a tackle in a half, it really is a damning indictment on them. Wijnaldum has been ok at times for me this season (I'm not a fan generally) but his performances the last few weeks have tailed off again, one of his ghost performances has been coming...Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Not blaming Klopp for that joke performance. Whether we had our first 11 or a few changes it shouldnt matter. The team was not playing as they should have and if you watched Klopp he was infuriated by it. There was one perfect moment in the second half where Robertson was far up on the left with noone anywhere near him and the defense had no idea where to pass it apart from each other. He started screaming at them and pointing to Robertson till they finally passed it up. There were plenty of moments like that all through the game. The entire team is on some major brain fart right now for no reason. I'll blame Trents emails for lack of anything constructive.

That's the key bit for me. Once it gets disjointed the whole thing falls apart quickly. I think those three changes from front to back didn't help with that cohesiveness.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI think the big thing missing has been our pressing

Having said that I'd expect them to play a bit better than they did even with the changes in personnel. Maybe a bit of legginess? And if Sturridge had scored that sitter I suspect we'd be having a bit of a different conversation.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I know everyone is ****ed off.
But we missed two of the clearest sitters you can have , especially when nil nil with Sturridge, totally changes the game.
Lallana just gets in the way now with a front three , we deffo need a midfield player who reads them games, tackles and passes the ball quickly to the front three
Fabinho was surely the man last night if no Shaq

It was a **** performance, no doubt; and we are clearly not at the level we were last season for whatever reason. But I don't think that we need to start proclaiming that the wheels have come off, or that its all gone to rack and ruin
2x absolute stonewall sitters, and at least another 4x golden chances to score and we would not be having these conversationsI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet
