Liverpool fan Sean Cox will reportedly leave hospital for the first time to attend a charity match in his honour.

Almost one year on since he was brutally attacked outside Anfield , the dad-of-three will travel to Dublin to watch LFC Legends take on the Republic of Ireland team.

Savage amount of money still needed for him though.

Was listening to a spokesperson for the family on the radio yesterday and whilst they are well on target for the 2 million target they have set for the initial funding they need, he will need full time care for the rest of his life.

He has been in the National Rehabilitation Hospital since last October after being transferred to there from the care centre he was in before that. He will be in the NRH until June but the point of this initial fundraising is to pay for him to get a place in a rehabilitation centre in the UK as there is specialist care he needs and there is no available place for him here in Ireland to get it.

So that 2 million target is to get him there plus to play for a lot of the treatment he has already received over the past year.

Was also reading that he missed his son's 21st birthday because of this, his daughter is doing her leaving cert this year and he is not around for it, and his 30th Wedding anniversary is this year and he will not be home for it.

He has only been outside of a hospital/care centre twice in the past year and that was only for an hour or two at a time as they brought him from Dún Laoghaire to his home for two brief visits.

His wife was also saying in an interview that Sean's ability to communicate is still very very limited.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

That is truly heartbreaking..... poor fella.

I will never understand why it is regarded as fun to some people to head off to a football match and look for fights. Disgusting stuff. For me, Roma should have been banned for 5 years from European football.

For the actions of a person that wasn't actually going to the match in the first place? No mate, way too harsh a penalty.

Roma, Liverpool FC and the Police have dealt with this adequately.

Nah. You just know that if you draw a few clubs in Europe, that you are taking a risk by going to the away leg. Roma being one of them. Nobody wants that.

Fantastic news! I know he's got a long way to go, but it's lovely to see he's improving.

I'm sure it's the least of his worries, but I hope he gets a VIP ticket to the Champions League final should we make it.
