Christ knows what the aim was but it must have been tactical - Salah ran over and took him off corners in the second half, and then proceeded to hit two exactly where Robbo had been putting them all game - around the shins of the first man.

Yeah we seriously need to work on our corners, for years now we haven't had someone that can take a decent corner... it's so annoying.

Jose Mourinho had ruled out a move for Fabinho, having identified Tottenham's Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic as his first and second-choice defensive midfield targets. Mourinho's preference was to recruit an established Premier League player and Fabinho was also partly dismissed because he was a converted midfielder, having begun his Monaco career at right-back.

Dier was 'desperate' to join United but Spurs refused to budge and Chelsea eventually agreed to allow Matic to reunite with Mourinho on July 31.

Mourinho has settled on Fred as his principal holding midfield target this summer and United would prefer to conclude a deal for the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder while he is in England with the Brazil national team this week. The MEN reported last week United are close to completing the signing of the 25-year-old after he almost joined Manchester City in January.

never seen their away end so quiet and crestfallen, emptied out on 80 minutes when the third went in

Spent all our set-piece time working on Throwins?

Yep, settling on Fred with his mass of premier league experience was a very astute strategy

It's not the individuals, it's the tactics. Robbo and Trent are perfectly capable of delivering fantastic balls into the box, and it's no coincidence that Salah put his corners in the exact same spot as Robbo when he relieved him of his corner-taking duties yesterday. If they were just **** at taking them then the results would be much more random. They were playing to a plan.

Surely you have to have more than one corner routine though and you mix it up, if something is working and creating chances then you stick with it, if not try one of the other routines. We had about 15 corners at the weekend and we threatened with none of them.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree entirely. Whatever we were supposed to be trying it was obvious after about the 8th corner that it wasn't working at all. I just found it telling that Salah came over second half and it made no difference at all to either the delivery or the end result.

We've got a few decent headers of the ball too, so why we were constantly aiming for the front post I'll never know?

I said somewhere else why does VVD stand in the 6 yard box rather than attacking the ball from our corners, the likes of him and Lovren should be able to get a few goals a season from corners and free kicks in similar areas, but that won't happen if they don't attack the ball
