I thought there was nothing wrong with it all tbh, good tackle but it did end up being quite nasty on the follow through but I don't believe he intended that to happen. And the ref was a cunt from start to finish.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

Check out this video including the ref's view. It looks like studs showing so I can understand why he showed a yellow. If VVD had missed the ball, it could have been red.

I come from the school of thought that any contact on the ball makes the challenge 'good'. So from that perspective, it isn't even a foul. However, in this case the follow through was dangerous and Mertens could easily have been seriously injured. I do understand why a foul was called and how a yellow could be issued. I still deem the yellow a bit harsh as it was his intent to get the ball and he succeeded. Bit of a tricky one.
If he had not made contact with the ball, it was a 100% red. Bit of a grey area I suppose.

Seriously don't get all of this "follow-through" stuff that's crept in. Football is supposed to be a contact sport, you're allowed to accidentally kick people on the follow-through now and again. The question is whether you were deliberately trying to get them, and/or whether you were being unduly reckless in the way that you slide in. Here it wasn't two-footed, it wasn't high, and he clearly got all of the ball. Fair tackle. Same for that ludicrous second-yellow for Vertonghen in the North-London derby.
I may be getting old but I just can't have it that if you accidentally catch the player at all in any kind of tackle it's a foul and maybe a yellow.

Agreed. Ball is there to be won and he's won it cleanly. What's he supposed to do with his momentum? Just stop dead in his tracks and unscrew his foot?Originally posted by calvoboy View PostSeriously don't get all of this "follow-through" stuff that's crept in. Pot's called the kettle black...we were up in arms over the Gomez tackle & it's on the other foot now so no complaints from me...a definite yellow but a necessary one as little cunt was on his way to goal so VVD did what he's paid for & ensures that we got through.Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

No ones complaining about that tackle, it's the others we're upset about.Originally posted by Angryred View PostPot's called the kettle black...we were up in arms over the Gomez tackle & it's on the other foot now so no complaints from me...a definite yellow but a necessary one as little cunt was on his way to goal so VVD did what he's paid for & ensures that we got through. Was muß, das muß.
