Think you're buying into this narrative rather than looking at the context of things, Slinky. In Klopp's first season, we got to the League Cup Final, but had a **** ton of games in the Europa League, and FA Cup replays too.Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostWow, terrible performance all round. Embarrassing that was. Klopp to blame there really, poor team. I love Klopp but he needs to start paying the domestic cups some respect. Really not good enough that, same **** year on year.
In his second season, we got the semis of the league cup, and got knocked out by Wolves in the FA Cup 4th Round, but we had 9 games in that month.
In his third season, we just had stinkers really, against Leicester in the 3rd Round of the League Cup, and West Brom at home in the 4th Round of the FA Cup.
This season, we had Chelsea in the League Cup, and now, since we're competing for the title, Wolves away, we had to rest players.

If we win the league going out of the cups is great. If we don't then trophies are what the point of sport actually is. You try win as many as you can. If I was a player I'd be desperate for them.
The great thing about the fa cup is the fact it's the cup that all the small teams start out in back in August. It means a lot to an awful lot of fans that never have a hope of winning it. Seems a shame that money means the big boys or the likes of us dismiss it so readily.
I bet city still get to the final.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

There are too many games all year round for the likes of us to take this seriously. It's a difficult juggle act really. The FA needs to have a look as t this and either enforces a winter break, or get rid of the league cup. The FA cup comes at the worst time of the year.
It's never going to happen because of money and I will be surprised if we start taking it seriously anytime soon. Are we winning?

Starting with the only positive. We have a genuine, bona-fide, wonderkid in Hoever. To step into a game like this at Centre Half, alongside a makeshift centre-half in Fabinho instead of a leader like Carra or VVD, and to play like that. Incredible.
Of the others, Curtis Jones isn't ready yet, and neither is Camacho. Both did some good stuff and some bad, but that's what you expect from players their age. Can't be too harsh on them.
Fabinho is starting to look class. Not phased being played out of position, and had a decent game. Shaq and Milner needed to do more to control the midfield, but it was tough, especially as Milner was clearly trying to protect our inexperienced centre-halves for most of the game.
Keita is the most worrying. He should be storming the midfield on a night like this, but he played like one of the young lads. Flashes of skill, but nowhere near enough in terms of fight and positioning.
Mignolet is a sound back-up, but not much more. He's a vast improvement on some of our previous cup keepers (Bogdan, Jones, Arphexad) but is hardly pushing for a starting point. I'm happy for him to stay though if he's happy with his role.
Origi is the new Djibril Cisse. Moments of brilliance surrounded by too much dross and too little understanding of how to move around the pitch to create space and chances for himself and others. Great hit on him though. I actually wouldn't mind him staying though as long as he isn't blocking the progress of others.
Sturridge and Moreno just need to go. Preferably before the end of the month.
This being a blessing in disguise only applies if we go on and win one of the other two comps, and they are the toughest two to win. Not sure it's such a great idea to bin this one off every year really. If you're lucky with the draw you can get away with playing the kids until the semi in the league cup, but that never really applies to the FA Cup.Last edited by calvoboy; 07-01-19, 11:02 PM.

The league fixtures are cancelled for the first three rounds though, so you only start playing two games a week if you get to the quarters. It's the league cup being played midweek throughout that causes most fixture congestion.Originally posted by Fredo View PostThere are too many games all year round for the likes of us to take this seriously.
