I realise how stupid this sounds, but City finish with that and only play one top 6 team in opening 11. The problem isn't just the ridiculous amount of fixtures that teams have to fit in, it's the uneven spread too.
The squad depth required for Dec/New Year's is very different to what's needed back in Sep/Oct.
The December schedule is obscene every year though, even before flying to Qatar to squeeze in 2 games..

I think it was the Xmas/New Year period - with frozen pitches, intense games with little recovery time etc., that knocked us off course last season. Our squad couldn't quite deal with it...though to be fair most can't. But with this Club World Cup thing, it's gonna be brutal. I guess we'll have to settle for a European Super Cup/Club World Cup /Champions League treble....Comment
