He's not up to it at the moment in midfield, as a back up to the front 3 I think he'd be fine but it's not working in midfield.

Sadly that could be said for most of our midfield this season.

I don't like singling out players. It's something I used to do and I find it immature and unhelpful now but two players have really let us down this season: Gomez and Elliot.

I agree the other players haven't been great but look what happened away to Villa when Elliot didn't start. Thought we played better than usual and looked similar to our old selves.

Every game he's started, we look disjointed bar one or two. It's like playing with 10 men as he just shadows Salah in attack and is not strong enough defensively.

Elliot is too young and inexperienced to be letting us down. All things being equal, he and Carvalho should be sitting on the bench and making some cup appearances. The amount of expectation on him is totally unreasonable. He’s still 19, and lost most of year of his development with injury and he’s played in all 17 PL games this season. He’d only make 10 PL appearances for us and Fulham in total before the start of the season. It’s farcical really.

Totally agree, not his issue that we have thrown him in to the team now; especially when being shoe-horned in to a position that 1; does not suit him & 2;does not suit the team...........

Elliott's performances are a reflection of Klopp's selection and demands of the player. Harvey should still be coming off the bench as an impact sub like he was a couple of seasons ago to good effect (pre-injury). We need an experienced centre mid with bags of energy to be the go to midfield dynamo who can start the press and defend well when required. Too much pressure on both Elliott and Carvahlo's young shoulders this season - and it's glaringly obvious to everyone.

It is a new year and Kenneth seems to be the voice of reason. We're all doomed

Agree, but all issues lead to the same conclusion we are relying on aging or inexperienced midfielders due to the fact that the last serious investment in midfield was when we signed Keita.

Not strengthening in this department is completely negligent.

I’ve never disagreed with that only that I think we keep (basically Hendo) for continuity - where as instead we currently rely on him for every match. Even last night we did.

We are in a position where we are 100% relying on Naby Keita staying fit for the reengineer of the season unless we sign someone else.

You and I have tossed this particular ball about way too much.

I would love it if we could reengineer the season !

Pretty sure if Salah on his 400k was played in midfield he would look equally poor.

Elliott is only 19 and being played out of position in a role he is not physically suited to, alongside a broken midfield and defenders and strikers who are all off form.

Not the easiest time for a teenager. Some of the abuse he has been getting is unreal.

He is the biggest young talent we have had in a while and people are wanting us to sell before he has finished growing.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

It's just the fangirls of other players clucking away, trying to deflect attention away from how ****e their favourties have been. No other plausible explanation, really.

I think we are going to ruin the lad playing him this way. He should be no more than an impact sub in forward areas for now.
