Hard to tell if it was a bad faith move by villa, or if he just doesn't have a role in their set up. Personally, I think he's never been much more than potential. He's not a top level winger, so he's looking for a number 10/wide forward role but his physicality and lack of pace is limiting there. He can perform playing against younger players at international but he still looks like a boy in the Premier League.

If he hasn't played his 10 games by the January window, I think we'll be pushing for his return and trying to move him elsewhere, but villa could probably choose to have him there and not playing just as cover. **** situation.

�� Aston Villa have notified Liverpool that they intend to return England U21 midfielder Harvey Elliott in January and will not be activating the £35M option to buy.

Elliott has made only five appearances under Unai Emery, and it’s clear he no longer fits into their plans.

If Liverpool choose not to loan him out again, there’s a possibility he could be considered as part of the solution in the wide areas should the club look for internal options following the uncertainty around Mo Salah’s situation.

Not a surprise if true but what a waste of 6 months, and possibly a season, for Elliott. Thought Villa would be a good place for him, under Emery.

I don't think we can loan him out again so he may as well be part of our squad for the rest of the season, we need some bodies

I was just about to post this, he's played for both us and Villa this season, I thought you could only play for 2 clubs in a season.

IIRC you can apply for special dispensation but if we/he were to do that it would suggest there is absolutely no way back. Question is if he comes back does he get asked time? I think we would be a useful squad option, but I thought that last year and he barely played....

In that he can be an option from the right I think alot of us would agree he is an option there, the concern has been about his lack of pace, which is something we lack in wide areas at the moment, I think that is part of why we have been linked with Semenyo, and I wouldn't be surprised if Frimpong were to play there when he is back from injury.

I like Elliott and I would definitely keep him around for the rest of the season as he can play from the right or is another option in CM (where we only really have 4 starting options), I would have though there should be a decent number of opportunities for him, except for the fact Slot doesn't seem to rate him, which has to be the main concern.

Yeah the player I’d like to see cover for Mo is Frimpong due to his electric pace on the wing. I think he could really unlock the defences & supply Isak with tap ins.

I think it is a FIFA regulation and it's a 12 month period.

I believe players or teams have successfully appealed but these are usually because seasons in different parts of the world aren't running at the same time.
