Does the ref wait for VAR to pipe in, or does the ref ask VAR ?
In either case, it was handball via UEFA's own guidelines.

Offsides have been handled about as poorly as European refs tend to handle the phase of play, but they've reached the correct decision on each occasion.

Most of them were called off by the officials to be fair to them, they are just hamstrung by UEFA's bollocks about keeping the flag down until the phase of play ends.
