I was wondering what the options the French League suggested as methods of determining the final standings, they had 3 options because Current standings and PPG were the same this means we would have 4 options:
A) Current Standings
Top of table:
1) Liverpool
2) Man City
3) Leicester
4) Chelsea
5) Man Utd
6) Wolves
7) Sheffield Utd
8) Tottenham
9) Arsenal
10) Burnley
11) Crystal Palace
12) Everton
13) Newcastle
14) Southampton
15) Brighton
16) West Ham
17) Watford
18) Bournemouth
19) Aston Villa
20) Norwich
B) Points per game
1) Liverpool
2) Man City
3) Leicester
4) Chelsea
5) Man Utd
6) Sheffield Utd
7) Wolves
8) Arsenal
9) Tottenham
10) Burnley
11) Crystal Palace
12) Everton
13) Newcastle
14) Southampton
15) Brighton
16) West Ham
17) Watford
18) Bournemouth
19) Aston Villa
20) Norwich
C) Roll back to the last complete round (27) - 28th Feb (I've taken this as the last time everyone had played same no of games and the last completed round of games)
1) Liverpool
2) Man City
3) Leicester
4) Chelsea
5) Man Utd
6) Tottenham
7) Sheffield Utd
8) Wolves
9) Arsenal
10) Burnley
11) Everton
12) Southampton
13) Crystal Palace
14) Newcastle
15) Brighton
16) Bournemouth
17) Aston Villa
18) West Ham
19) Watford
20) Norwich
D) Roll back to halfway 28th December (Liverpool vs West Ham not played but result doesn't change standings)
1) Liverpool
2) Leicester
3) Man City
4) Chelsea
5) Wolves
6) Tottenham
7) Sheffield Utd
8) Man Utd
9) Crystal Palace
10) Newcastle
11) Arsenal
12) Burnley
13) Everton
14) Southampton
15) Brighton
16) Bournemouth
17) West Ham
18) Aston Villa
19) Watford
20) Norwich
Final CL place (if Man City are banned) and Europa league places change depending on method chosen
Relegation, Norwich are down whatever option is chosen the other options again change depending on method chosen and whether 2 or 3 go down...Last edited by Exiled_red; 30-04-20, 09:16 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There is no point where all the teams have played 28 games, some have played 29 while some are still on 27.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostAlthough option C would be Matchweek 28, which would make the bottom 3 the same as options A & B.
Week 28 lost fixtures due to the league cup final. Man City were due to play Arsenal and Aston Villa Sheffield Utd, those games haven't been played yet. They don’t need to have been played in the same week literally.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThere is no point where all the teams have played 28 games, currently some have played 29 while some are still on 27.

It’s just about everyone having played the same amount of games, not a point in time.
Every team has played at least 28 games, so 28 is the last complete ‘matchweek’..

Without those missing fixtures from week 28 you don't get all teams having played the same number of games. For example Aston Villa's 28th game was against Leicester but that game was Leicester's 29th of the season, you can't count that game for Villa but not for Leicester.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostThey don’t need to have been played in the same week literally.

Ah, got ya now. Did not realise that.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostWithout those missing fixtures from week 28 you don't get all teams having played the same number of games. Given that I’d say ppg is the even more likely option now..

As was suggested by the tweet about the French league I doubt option D is really on the table. Of the others they can't finish the season based on current standings as teams have played different number of games. That leaves B & C, Points per game (B) seems the fairest from the outside but the fact that B & C would give different relegation outcomes is likely to be where the controversy will come. The French league had the same teams relegated regardless of method used - only what are presumably Europa league places were affected. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The thing that's really stopping there being a proper solution in domestic leagues is the lack of movement from UEFA on European competitions. Get rid of the league stage, potentially get rid of 2 leg ties, start the competitions later. Suddenly there is room for domestic leagues to work with. Until that happens their hands are tied. They need to state entrants for their moneyspinners.Like blood on iron
