I know the German league restarts soon...was there similar reactions from clubs and players there, or is this just a PL issue?

as far as I know , I haven't heard much whinging from clubs/players...in typical German fashion , they seem to be just getting on with it & see how it goes - this weekend will be a test
I am just hoping everything goes smoothly with no crowd gatherings (might be difficult with BVB vs Scheiße 04 being a local derby) and my team Freiburg beats LeipzigLast edited by Barnie7; 15-05-20, 11:47 AM.

And suspect that the, they just got on with it, is probably true also. Maybe being British means complicating absolutely everything?Modifying post.

Alternatively the PL should just rule that players and clubs are free to not participate. However all PL games will go ahead as mandated and if a minimum 7 players are not on the pitch the game will be forfeit as a 3-0 loss. Simple. Let's see clubs like Watford risk nine 3-0 losses and stay up. Club owners will be really happy to continue paying the millions in salaries to these questionable objectioners. One tit for another.

It's interesting comparing some of the contrasting opinions about teachers and footballers.
Ultimately, I think it's up to each individual to express how they feel about going back to work (if they want to) without having to justify why.
But that's easy for me to say behind my my desk at home.Oh I don't know.

Totally different environments though.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIt's interesting comparing some of the contrasting opinions about teachers and footballers.

One where you are coming into contact with 20-30 individuals at least from different homes, whom it is hard to control and ensure they are doing simple things like wash hands so the potential for infection is pretty high.
The other is an environment where it is easy to sanitise, test, and have 24 hour medical care.
One where the choice not to work means no money.
The other where the choice not to work is fine due to the amount you’ve trousered over the past years.
It’s comparing apples and giraffes.Modifying post.

Maybe, but one person's concern isn't any less valid because you choose which criteria should be applied to score validity.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostTotally different environments though.

Like, playing football involves more close contact with a large number of people (almost a classroom's worth) than many other activities I can currently think of. That is a valid concern. Is it more valid than a school teacher's? No - because it is on its own terms and personal reference.Oh I don't know.

But they can and will test all of the people involved in football before they take part. They are all adults and have medics and physios and security. They can ensure they have sanitised before they enter the 'work place' etc. It is easy to manage and control this environment, impossible the other. The agendas are completely different.Originally posted by dom9 View PostMaybe, but one person's concern isn't any less valid because you choose which criteria should be applied to score validity.

Also the pressure teachers is huge.
I've literally not read a single article from a team in the top half of the League pressurising to get back to playing. Sure they may want it, but they have kept their own council.
If Troy Deeney doesnt want to play then he shouldnt.
But he isn't in the same boat as teachers who will have less say, less choice, and less ability to say no. And who are operating in an environment that is impossible to control.
If the schools go back before we have a semblence of control on the virus I cant see football happening.Last edited by Buzzo; 15-05-20, 01:21 PM.Modifying post.

Regular mass testing of teachers should absolutely be a priority. As should daily deep cleaning of schools.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostBut you can test all of the people involved in football, they are all adults and there are medics and physios and security. I've not been paying a lot of attention to who is saying what, but I have seen Aguero and Sterling voice their concerns in the media. And a Newcastle player (can't remember who).
And teachers do have the possibility to say no, via the unions, which is exactly what is happening. They are saying no, until they are satisfied that their working conditions are appropriate.
But it is true, that their scope to take action on their own is more limited.
By the same token, if the PFA refuse to play on safety grounds, then that's fine imo.
And yes, if Troy Deeney doesn't want to play as an individual, then he should be free to opt out. It's a valid point of view imo.Oh I don't know.

Deeney can refuse to play, fair enough. If his club want to pay him, fair enough, that's on them.
If he thinks this is going to start a greater movement, fine. It won't. Take the comments from Connor Coady today, Wolves are ready to play. They're ready to play because they want to improve their league position the ****house 6™ just want to avoid relegation and are happy to use the pandemic as an excuse.
If he thinks he can get others to refuse to play, that's fine. If his club can't field a team, they can have a 3 point penalty and still have to play the game, just like Middlesboro in 1997. That's a risky game though because there's precedent to dock points. It would send them straight down.
They'll moan like **** and either the games will get played and 3 teams go down, or it'll be cancelled and PPG used to send 3 down. Either way, they'll have their moans this year and next.
I'll celebrate us winning the league, then I'll celebrate each team getting relegated. Looking forward to that

I'm already hoping that the 3 that go down this year stay down and the other 3 that stay up this year get relegated next yearOriginally posted by Rafa Justice View PostDeeney can refuse to play, fair enough. If his club want to pay him, fair enough, that's on them.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
