    Liverpool v Villa (h) PL

    Sat 3pm GMT (old skool).

8 games to go, I think we need to win them all to get top 4.

Surely that absolute tonking at Villa early in the season is going to be mentioned in the lead up to this. It was one early sign that football was not quite as we know it this season. We squeak into the top 4, even if temporarily with a win.

A few rights to wrong for us. The Anfield hoodoo of 2021. We've been **** at home, so utterly awful - it has to end. So let's go win it The Liverpool that played v Arsenal again please.

Team wise:- Rest Sadio. He can cause havoc from the bench.

Maybe Milner left back - Give Robbo a rest?

Other than that team pretty much picks itself.

    This one,

    --------------------------Becker----------------------------
    Trent------------Nat-----------------Kabak----------Milner
    --------------------------Fabinho---------------------------
    -----------Thiago-----------------------Gini----------------
    --------------------------Bobby-----------------------------
    Salah---------------------------------------------------Jota

or for maximum goal threat, this one - the 15 mins or so that this forward line were on the pitch v Arsenal looked very encouraging.

    --------------------------Becker----------------------------
    Trent------------Nat-----------------Kabak----------Milner
    -----------Thiago-----------------------Fabinho------------
    --------------------------Bobby-----------------------------
    Jota---------------------Salah------------------------Mane

I worry that they will do the same as us in the first game - long diagonal balls over our full backs and take our midfield out of the equation. We have seen recently that when teams play out from the back (Ars and RBL) they play to our sweet spot and we win. When teams go after our weak spot (long balls into space) we suffer - Madrid completely changed their normal approach and increased their long ball rate significantly. That is where they had all their success although we compounded that by making individual errors on all goals

Villa have the tools to hurt us also - not sure we win this one

Adrian was at his erratic best the last time.

Villa are a more than decent side, but if we play as we did v Arsenal we should have enough to see us home. freakish is crucial for them and it looks like he will be fit.

Is Jones fit? Would have him in the centre with Thiago and Fabinho before I would give Wijnaldum or Keita any game time against Villa after their Madrid **** show.

No Grealish for them either - still injured - so their man who 'makes everything tick' and was instrumental is taking us apart earlier in the season, is out.

They have others who can hurt us of course, but that news must help us and give the lads a bit of a lift you'd think...

They've not been anywhere near as good without him, so that is great news for us.

I'd go with this. Literally fed up of the games at home being exact replicas of the game before and the one before that and so on.

                Becker

                Milner Phillips Kabak Robertson

                Fabinho Thiago

                Trent Mane

                Salah Jota

Get some width. Play two up top.

So basically Fab and Thiago holding centrally to give support to the defence.
Trent wide right, Mane wide left.
Salah and Jota up top centrally.

Sadio’s form at present means he has to make way for Jota surely & Millie will add a bit of steel to the middle. Other teams around us on the table will drop points this weekend so a win is imperative.

Wish this was an away game tbh, what with us having the worst home form in the league over the last 4, or 8 games. Zero points at home from the past four home games and 2 points from the last eight home games.

In terms of relative form (home & away combined) over the past eight games, we have identical form with both teams averaging 1.13 points per game.

Away from home they average about a point per game the past 8 games and a little better the past 4 away games.

We have averaged zero points per game at home over the past four games and 0.25 points per game at home over the past eight PL games at Anfield.

You would have to think that our Anfield hoodoo in the league wold have to end at some point before the season ends, so hopefully that happens today.

Solid. Milner set the tone and standard last week, he can do so again here.
