That's my take too. Avoids another Palace, plus makes it less likely we'll lose on GD, which would be hard to stomach.Originally posted by Fuzzy View PostI think the draw is basically as good as a defeat, if they lost we'd still need them to drop points vs Villa because it would be pretty difficult to catch their GD. This way we won't be pressured to get a huge scoring win either.
Win against Southampton, then pray for a miracle in the last round. At least Villa is a better opponent than Brighton was a few years ago when we had this exact situation almost.
Draw > defeat.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I still think that there is a chance,I'm not giving up I didn't think there was a chance of over turning GD in the last two games, particularly as if we win by 4 or 5 on Tuesday they would go into the final game knowing it is a shootout and at the moment they are more likely to win that based on recent goal scoring form.Originally posted by Fredo View PostWhat happens if they draw their last game and we win our two?
It's fine to think the worst will happen, but we've got to believe as this was and there's still a lifeline.Last edited by Exiled_red; 15-05-22, 06:13 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If we win the first 4-0 they know it's a shootout going into the final game and we not only have to get the 3 or 4 goals that more that City get in their gameOriginally posted by Frog83 View PostSouthampton lost heavily to Chelsea very recently so always possible to score 4 or 5 against them. Wolves are conceding quite a bit too. Not that it's relevant now but I think a couple of 4-0 results would have been do-able albeit unlikely.

Goal difference only comes in to it they lose to Villa and we draw vs Wolves. I wouldn't want the players to be forcing it on Tuesday, just play their normal game and try to get through without picking up more injuries.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostIf we win the first 4-0 they know it's a shootout going into the final game and we not only have to get the 3 or 4 goals that more that City get in their game

We'd have to win about 7-0 on Tues in order to cope with a draw vs Wolves. Highly unlikely!Originally posted by Bloodraven View PostGoal difference only comes in to it they lose to Villa and we draw vs Wolves. This is where I am, I still think there is a chance, not a great one it's out of our hands, my point was that we weren't making up the GD, I think that not (really) having GD in play helps us a bit

Prefer to see if Villa get a draw or better… and we just win both games. Can’t see us scoring a hatful, so a City loss today and both winning on the final day would have been heartbreaking to lose on GD. Citeh and us have been imperious this season, but I’d rather win it (or lose it) by point(s)

Does anyone think there will be a role for Origi in the next 3 games? I feel like he still has one big goal left in him for us, I was convinced that if he came on yesterday he was going to get the winner but obviously that didn't happen. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm on the Bowen train now - looks like a very intelligent player with great pace and finishing ability, and English too, great for the home grown quota.
Villa are certainly capable of spoiling City's party, the last two games have been tight affairs (2-1 to City). We just need a draw please Villa! Was muß, das muß.

Before the game I would have said there’s no chance of us making up the goals- but at half time, purely based on how they both played on the first half, I’d have said west ham were as likely to score next, as city were. I really didn’t see them getting back into it, as stupid as that sounds now.
If it was cut to 4 goals today, I would have been able to dream that we’d get them 4 back against Southampton, and then put wolves to the sword final day…
I agree it would be a hard pill to swallow, losing on GD, but losing by 1 point is harder than losing by 20 points too- but would still rather be as close as possible..I don't tip
