Friday poll for a bit of fun. Not to be taken seriously (as if ).

Obviously Xabi won the CL with us, Thiago has had injuries etc, but disregard all that. They're similar sort of players, wonderful playmakers, conductors of the orchestra. Who do you think is the better player.

Don't necessarily mean "for Liverpool", cos obviously Xabi achieved more, for longer (at this stage)...etc...and wins easily. Just who's the better player, cos in that regard I think it's very close.

In terms of Liverpool career then Alonso would be my preference.

Times change.....for me Molby was the best before Xabi came along, the next step is Thiago. I still love Big Jan and Xabi though

Thiago needs to perform at the same level for as long as Alonso did. Xabi was still putting in high quality performances for Bayern when he was 35.

I dare say Thiago has won even more than Xabi? 7 German titles, 4 La Ligas, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 World Club Cups and about a dozen domestic Cups. Got in the Barca side in 2009....12 years ago.

Think I remember Xabi's first game, uefa Cup I think.

Within a few touches he made a short simple pass between the lines that none of our players would have seen. Was a what have got here moment.

Hey I'm a Thiago fan boy, spent a chunk of last season defending him against Dastardly Dan Perkins , but think Xabi simply has more minutes and games playing at a very high personal level (more than 300 games more for club and country) than Thiago has playing at his own best level and am using that to split them.


Stylistically they are difficult to compare in some ways as they are/were at their best in different roles. Both elite players with off the chart abilities imo.

Can't decide... Xabi was instrumental for us over a long period in the best midfield in the world, Thiago probably does edge it as the better player BUT he needs to be special for us over a longer period imo.

It's akin to asking who's better, Firmino or Morientes/Litmanen - most outsiders would probably say one of the latter whereas we'd all say Firmino cos he's done it consistently.
