Something that Carragher touched on a few weeks ago. We concentrate on playing the line and the offside trap and not on player marking, which sometimes leaves the central defenders disconnected. Don’t think Virgil was paying attention to their player drifting in tbh.
    Are we winning?

We could do with a City style run of fixtures in this.

We are bound to get Chelsea away in the next round, whilst City get the Dog and Duck 2nd XI at home.
      Modifying post.

We might have to write this season off as a rehabilitation period for Virgil in terms of him getting back to 100% of his powers.

Robbo looked like he might have picked up an injury to his right foot as he seemed to land on it awkwardly after the foul.

In terms of the match, nobody stood out as outstanding against lower league opposition, and some of the players with a lot of experience looked decidedly mediocre.

Never mind though, into the next round with minimal effort (and hopefully no injuries).

Great experience for the kids this. Let’s play them as much as we can in this competition. At least gives these kind of teams a bit of a hope.
Not sure about the offside, I reckon he was onside, plus they should have had another in then first half, not sure where you are getting a stroll from, laborious yes, possession across the back for but all in front of Shrewsbury.

Weren't they playing with a severely weakened team too?

We barely got out into second gear. We were toying with them most of the time with our possession up to the point of boredom. The idea was not to get injured and keep the intensity to a lower level. I thought we played well if that was the plan as it was executed up to a tee.

Agreed on VVD, will take time physically, but just looked lazy at times.

Thought Curtis looked far from it, kept on slowing the tempo, looked backwards, and when going forward lacked pace with and without the ball.

It was piss easy. Got ourselves in a bit of a bother with their goal, but it was a stress free match this.

Boredom yeah, don't think we had anymore gears today, lots of huff and puff but no guile or strength up top.

Thats said, a win is a win, kids can take some experience onwards, Gordon is defo a find

Can’t ask for anything more with a team cobbled together after 2 training sessions. Played pretty well considering. 4-1 job done against journeymen.

Don’t think the CBs did as well as you’d expect tbh, but apart from that it was fine.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "We've trained since Friday pretty much and that is what we decided with this line up. The boys really fought hard.

"When you get the first goal against you so many things can happen but I liked the way we responded.

"We started with five really young boys. They are really good players. We played so many safety passes in the first half. We knew we could play better football in the second half.

On Kaide Gordon being the second youngest scorer in Liverpool's history: "He's a real talent and his main strength is his finishing."

On Covid cases in the squad: "We only have one real extra positive case and that is Trent Alexander-Arnold."
