    Its a Must

    Gerrard playing in the centre.

Don't care how good Alonso or Momo are or what they bring to the team, to get the best from our one world class player you must play him in the centre. End of.

Hate this topic, but you're right of course.

He sees the final ball a lot quicker than Alonso, and favors the 'Hollywood' ball a lot less often. Keeps it simple and can be full of energetic surges into the box (momo and xabi are incapable of that). We are far too predictable with xabi dictating the pace.

The team should be built around Gerrard, i have no doubt about it.

I concur, Gerrard to stay in the centre!

There are enough games to satisfy the three being rotated in the central two positions.

Rotate Alonso & Momo by all means but Gerrard should play when fit.

Gerrard can't play every game, however I do agree that Alonso and Sissoko should rotate more often than Gerrard, and in the biggest games Gerrard should be in the middle.

          Typical Gerrard-type goal last night.

We were having this discussion in the pub last night.

Gerrard is the best player we have had for years. He is far and away the best / most complete central midfielder in the world. Rafa should not be f*cking around building his team around Alonso, he should be building his team around Gerrard in the middle of the park.

If Gerrard played well, he must have played in the centre of the park. End of.

I hate to be the only voice of decent but two disciplined performances against average opposition is not enough to convince me that Gerrard is better in the middle. He can be devastating at either CM or RM, which gets the best out of him depends on the opposition and the other players in our team.

Gerrard was shocking in the middle against Gala in the second half and he has been anonomous there when he has been moved there during games this seaon.

It is not all about getting the best out of Gerrard as some people say but about getting a team that will win. So far this season Gerrard has seemed to be unable to maintain any sort of team shape when on the right, which he managed really well last year. He also seems less dynamic. It actually seems that this lack of running around all over the place has resulted in him becoming less able to get back in position on the right but in the middle it has at least in the last two games meant he has picked his times to break better and been more secure defensively. At the minute he probably is better in the middle but when playing as a rampaging attacking player he is better on the right, unless we start playing a Chelsea/Bolton style 4-1-2-2-1, but seeing as our wide midfielders show no sign of getting goals this would be madness IMO.

I was, and i'm sure others were as well, basing their opinion on the his whole LFC career. He showed glimpses last night what he can do last night and reminded folk what we've been missing from the center 'this season'.

He has changed as a player compared to his early years you know.

Last night though, I have to agree, he looked like Gerrard the centralmidfielder, not just the attacking midfielder who goes rampaging here and there and forgets defensive duties and positioning.

Funny you should say that. Remember though two-footed horrible lunges he cut out of his game. The start of the game reminded me of that. Gerrard aside it was reminiscent of a game of sensi-soccer.

I cant see Rafa bowing to this when Momo and Xabi come back.
Personally I dont see Stevie as a defensive midfielder. So we have to assume that we play him ahead of the other central midfielder. Then we are left with the situation of Momo not being able to pass and having limited technique, or Xabi being a great passer, but not the best defensively.
If I was forced to pick a role for Stevie in a central midfield two, it would be with Xabi, because momo cant pass. Stevie is a good ball winner aswell.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
