We definitely upset someone at the FA or PGMOL last season.

One or two of those decisions against one team would be quite bad. Collectively...

For VAR alone, we had more subjective decisions against us just last season, than many other PL teams have had go against them since it was introduced the previous season.

The ‘highlights’ real that was posted somewhere else on here is scandalous.

what a load of utter ****e. Anywhere else on the pitch and thats a yellow card. See came flying in from behind and took him out after he got the shot off. It's a ****ing foul all day long.

the “there’s already too many penalties” argument makes no sense.

Harvey Elliott had his leg broken in a very similar tackle and the Leeds player got a red card....and he actually got the ball!

It wasn’t given, and they generally aren’t. Whether you like it or not there is clearly a convention around last ditch tackles and follow through contact, and this conversation is about whether that convention should or shouldn’t exist. The ‘anywhere else on the pitch’ argument is irrelevant, because yes, anywhere else on the pitch it’s given as a foul and maybe yellow. But it wasn’t anywhere else on the pitch.

I don’t think this argument is irrelevant- the point he was making is that the criteria for a foul, in the rules, isn’t different for when it’s in the box, but the refs are not applying the rule consistently. As you say yourself, anywhere else on the pitch it would have been given as a foul. Therefor by the rules, it should also have been given as a penalty.

Yes, that’s obviously true. There are plenty of unwritten conventions in football; letting an attack finish instead of blowing for half time/full time (see Mane one above), shielding the ball as it goes out of play, reluctance to book players early etc etc. They’re not written down but they do exist. Denying they exist doesn’t help, so the only interesting questions are why they exist and whether they should exist.

Relating to the salah one, I think it’s preferable that last ditch sliding tackles are a thing, and that they’re not effectively killed off by yet more scenarios where strikers get pens for contact in the box, or strikers contrive it. In 90% of cases, the striker has done his part and had a pop, the contact isn’t preventing anything further from being achieved so it’s not exactly analogous to most fouls in open play, and I have already caveated it in relation to dangerous tackles. So I personally don’t want those given as pens, and that isn’t “a load of utter ****e”, it’s my opinion on the matter and I don’t believe it makes less sense than ‘but the rules say..’.

Chelsea have suffered a double injury scare ahead of the Carabao Cup final this weekend after Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech both limped off in the first leg of the Lille Champions League knockout tie.

Both players limped off after the interval in what could have handed Liverpool a massive advantage ahead of the cup final on Sunday.
Just read this & not sure of the reliability though

They definitely both went off injured.

                        Ziyech was replaced by Saul.

Kante and Kovacic seem to be first picks.
