I think Gomez will play Saturday as a trial run for City and an opportunity to improve match fitness. Someone else, maybe Milner against Benfica, with an outside chance of keeping their place if they really impressed, or Gomez bombed against Watford.

TBH, if Gomez could neutralise their LW and they lose that threat and we lose Trent's threat, I'd fancy us to have enough goal threat from others to give us an advantage.

You don't really need a trial run to know what Gomez at RB will bring though. He's solid defensively but has almost nothing going forward.

I don't think we can experiment too much as we're in a title race, but I'd like us to try a different solution there if possible.

What I mean is I think Klopp will be favouring Gomez, so give him another opportunity to improve match fitness against Watford and if he does OK, have him favourite for City. If however he did experiment against Benfica and someone like Tsimikas had a stormer, he might rethink his options.

Diaz played 90 mins last night and was subbed off late in the game on Friday/Sat.

Jota played 70/80 mins in each of his games and hasn’t had the amount of travel as Diaz or anywhere the minutes of Mane or Salah.

Bobby and Jota will be 2 of the starters imo.

I've mentioned Matip as an alternative a couple of time but I think I'm the only one who thinks it could be better than Millie or Gomez

Matip has only played full back 3 or 4 times in his career and that was years ago, before he joined us.

Gomez has over 60 games at RB and spent a whole season there for us.

I don’t think Joel is built for bombing up and down the flank anyway.
Leave him at CB where we need him and he can still make his occasional attacking adventures though the middle.

Gomez is decent on the ball and fast, it's his crossing that lets him down. Can't imagine Matip being much better in that department.

Would be amazing if City slip up away at Burnley. Totally changes the dynamic of the game v them at the Empty. Plus then hope they have a typical war vs Athletico.

It would be glorious to be above them going in to the game at their place. Total shift in momentum

I think Gomez will play there, I know Fabinho has played there but we don't want to take him out of midfield. I might be tempted to play Henderson there against City he's filled in a couple of times and done ok, whether this will be a practice in that position for whoever is going to play there against City

Henderson there would solve a few problems. He's better at crossing than most alternatives and would allow us to play a more creative midfielder alongside Fab and Thiago, to try and compensate for losing Trent's creativity. I wouldn't be too disappointed to see him RB, with Elliot, Jones or Naby ahead.

This game won’t be as straightforward as the general consensus feel it will be. Early KO after an international break, plus Watford have some good players who can cause us problems. Important the crowd shows up there.
