I disagree. The drop off is huge between TAA and Gomez. Joe has covered ok, but simply does not have the ability to play as a virtual winger. Not saying he is a bad player but its not the position for a centreback. He may defender better than Trent, which gives you a tactical option. But TAA provides most of our threat, and Joe simply cant replicate that.

I'm not saying there is not a big drop off, just that I think there is a bigger drop off between Fab and Milner or Thiago and Henderson.

Not expecting Gomez to be able to match what TAA does in a like for like manner, but he would be able to do as much as a regular PL level RB when in the role and allow us to maintain a decent balance at the back.

Whereas in the middle I think taking Fab and Thiago out means having far less control and being less press resistant.

None of it matters right now though as we are one up with none of the guys I am talking about being in the team and all three of the stand ins for today playing well
