    2023-2024

Like hedgehog said the other day, I think our main problem is squad registration. We can get in 25 players for the CL, and of them 8 need to be homegrown.

Our squad today, with homegrown players underlined:

    GK
    Alisson
    Kelleher- Leaving
    Adrian- Leaving

    Defenders
    Virgil
    Konate- Injury problems
    Gomez- Injury problems
    Matip- Injury problems
    Phillips- Leaving
    Williams
    Robertson
    Trent
    Tsimikas
    Ramsay

    Midfielders
    Fabinho
    Bajcetic
    Jones
    Keita - Leaving
    Thiago- Injury problems
    Melo- Leaving
    Henderson
    Chamberlain- Leaving
    Milner- Leaving
    Carvalho

    Attackers
    Diaz- Injury problems
    Nunez
    Jota - Injury problems
    Salah
    Gakpo
Firmino - Out of contract, should be leaving

Only Curtis Jones counts as homegrown from next season, and needs to be registered. Tyler Morton, Rhys Williams, Leighton Clarkson and Sepp Van den Berg, Elliott, Pitaluga and Ramsay don't need to be registered until they are 21.

We can expect Milner, Chamberlain, Kelleher and Phillips to leave next season so we ideally need three to four homegrown players coming in. We really ****ed up our recruitment, there is too much of a gap between those coming in the side and our key players, teenagers vs. 30 somethings.
    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

How much of that matters when we aren’t in the CL?

Not so sure Kelleher and Philips will be gone next season.

The homegrown things is a valid point though there are a number of players on frees in the summer that would count as HG and in Mason Mount we have been linked with at least one of them.

Technically we could still register a squad for next season even if we do not have eight HG players.

It would be 17 non HG, whatever number of HG we actually have plus whatever number of under 21s we wanted to pad it out with.

Now it makes more sense to have 8 HG of quality as more quality is obviously better, but we could get by if we fell short on numbers.

Still think it is stupid that Scottish players cannot count as homegrown though. Imo it should be as long as you are registered with a UK FA and meet the set criteria before you turn 21

There are similar rules in the league IIRC, but it makes sense to plan for the CL though, we intend to get back. If our HG players are ****, we have to suffer the quality drops between rotation. But seeing our squad listed up like this does highlight the magnitude of the work ahead for me.

I reckon Nat and Kelleher will press for exits for their own sakes.

Bellingham and Mount would of course be fantastic HG additions, but can't see it really.

In terms of HG players, assuming Milner, Ox and Phillips leave we will be left with:

Kelleher, Gomez, TAA, Williams, Jones, Henderson would be homegrown

Jones and Williams both have to be registered in the main squad now (from next season).

Kelleher may or may not leave, that leaves us with 5/6 HG players for the PL.

Carvalho is under 21 so doesn't have to be registered in the main squad for the PL but I believe would have to be registered in the main squad for the Europe as there is a clause about the youth players list that says a player has to have been eligible to play for the club for previous 3 years Carvalho doesn't meet that because he only signed in the summer, but he was at Fulham long enough to count as association trained, so could occupy one of the HG slots there

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There is no point in padding it out the U21s can play anyway, you don't have to register the full 25 man squad we could just leave a few HG spots vacant, obviously we would prefer to have 8 quality options but if we don't have that how you register people doesn't really matter.

Bellingham would not count as homegrown.

He is not 21 yet and as such could not be registered as HG. If he joined in the summer at 20 years of age, then after he turned 21 in June 2024 he would count as HG but not before then.

Won't be getting him anyways so wouldn't worry about it. More chance of us getting Nile Ranger.

I think we are looking at a squad of:

                  Alisson
                  Kelleher HG

                  VVD
                  Matip
                  Gomez HG
                  Konate
                  Williams HG
                  TAA HG
                  Robertson
                  Tsimikas
                  (Ramsay)

                  Henderson HG
                  Thiago
                  Fabinho
                  Jones
                  (Elliott)
                  (Bajcetic)
                  (Morton)
                  (Carvalho)*

                  Salah
                  Firmino
                  Diaz
                  Nunez
                  Gakpo
                  Jota

HG - indicates a HG player
Brackets indicate players who don't need to be registered for main squad
                  * indicates Carvalho would need to be registered in main squad for Europe

I have left Kelleher in there for now as I don't think it's certain he will leave but it is highly likely

That leaves us with 20 players who need to be registered in the main squad (for PL) 5 of whom would count as HG (assuming Kelleher stays or is replaced by a HG keeper) meaning 2 free non-HG spots and 3 HG spots

Yeah do not think we have a chance at getting Bellingham and even if we could afford him the same money buys at least two first team quality players.

And Nile Ranger? WTF. You just google a player at random or something?
