Anyone who’s read inverting the pyramid will be familiar with the WM formation - Pep essentially went back to that with the 3-box-3 but more fluid. It’s all about creating overloads to bypass the initial press.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postone of your wingbacks stepping into the midfield when the team is in possession is something arsenal and city already do. pushing him in and going to a box midfield is something we're doing more, but it's not exactly new. and it works ok.
Every formation gets reused and improved - sweepers in a back 3 in a few years from now

in the states in the 90s absolutely every team played a back for with the centerbacks playing as a stopper and a sweeper rather than side by side.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostAnyone who’s read inverting the pyramid will be familiar with the WM formation - Pep essentially went back to that with the 3-box-3 but more fluid. They are both sitting, but Trent is not doing much defence (as in DM). Provides a lot more angles to play out from the back though.Originally posted by peterbread View PostInteresting talk after the game about how that change for Trent is also a help defensively as we now have two sitting in midfield rather than Fab on his own, at least when we have the ball.

Well
I've felt flat and disillusioned since day one after Fulham, but for the first time I feel properly optimistic again. That was great last night, after an average first 30. Felt like we earned the right to play and moved them around, wore them down.
I think we're gonna win every game from here.
Could end up looking and feeling foolish, but with all our players back, a clear target to aim for now, and Trent's new role working a treat (for now!) I think we have reason for renewed optimism. We have no excuses. Villa at home looks our toughest test. We're winning all these:
Saturday 22nd April
Liverpool v Nottingham Forest
Wednesday 26th April
West Ham United v Liverpool
Sunday 30th April
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur
Wednesday 3rd May

It's amazing the difference when we have some confidence, if we could start games like we played for the last hour, we'd be in a much better positionThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
