I'd venture without Grav in midfield, we would not be top. That's how important he's been to us this season. For all Mo's goals and assists, without the midfield lynchpin, I think Mo's contribution would fall away. And again, without Grav (and Macca) controlling the midfield, would Virg look as solid defensively as he does now? For me, Ryan is the standout this season. We look a different team without him, for all the good work Jones does, he's not quite in the same class in terms of reading the game and breaking play up.

Think he is defo equally as important as VVD and Salah this season.
On top of what you said, I think Grav's contributions in protecting our right flank often go unnoticed.
Watch many of the clips where people are gushing over a bit of skill by him, and instead of looking at the skill look at where he has just won the ball back.
He is getting through a huge amount of work on that flank covering for both Salah and TAA whilst at the same time protecting the entire line across the back four.
He is also the guy VVD and whoever is at LB tend to pass to the most when they need an outlet.
MacAllister has been very god at times this season but he has had a few dips in form, Grav seems to just stay at the same high level game in game out.
For me and in no particular order, Salah, Grav and VVD have all been crucial to our play all season and are proving to be the spine of the team.
Usually I would have Ali in there, and he has been great, but left him out as think Kelleher played in about a third of the league games so far this season.
Gakpo, MacAllister and Szobo would then be the three next most consistent guys for me.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Your post had me thinking of what the TOTY would be if the season ended now.
Would not have been saying this at the start of the year but I might have two, maybe three, Forest players in it.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think you could also add Dom to that in terms of changing how solid the team is defensively. Starts it all from the front and as the doc says with gravy covering the right he also helps cover that side at times over the season. That midfield three has transformed the team and what the others around them can do with Jones a good next in line option being able to cover a variety of roles in midfield.Originally posted by Scratch View PostI'd venture without Grav in midfield, we would not be top. I’m not saying he’s miles ahead but the player of the season should be based on scores on the doors for each match & whilst I agree Mo is our star man Grav does the dirty less fashionable stuff that allows that to happen. My opinionOriginally posted by spud_gun View PostPips Mo?
Take Mo out the team and we aren't top of the league.
No disrespect to Grav as he's having a great season but let's not get carried away. He's nowhere near the best/most
influential player in the team.
I'd go further and suggest that from a midfield perspective he's behind MacAllister in terms of how important he his to the team.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

no one comments on the slab of the house when they come to inspect it but without it the whole house crumbles.

Early on this season, when Grav already had an air of gravitas on the football pitch ala controlling presence in terms of his position, i think i asked myself if he kept up this level of consistency (8 out of 10 and a few 10s in between for match ratings), he would be and should be termed world class... rightly so, even between now and the end of this season, i have no doubt he already is....
question now Jaco
, would you rather have Tchoo Tchoo or Grav at this stage?

Very different players who would bring different qualities.
Grav sits more whilst Tchoo roams up and down the pitch a lot more.
I'd have both in the same team as a double pivot for some games and have Tchoo swapping roles with one of MacAllister or Szobo in other games.
Tchoo has been playing as a centre back a bit this season too so he has that ability to play well in a few positions that Slot likes.
That said if we could raid Real, I would be equally happy with Camavinga or Valverde as I think either would fit into a Slot team as easily as Tchouameni albeit in different roles.
Tchouameni would be the easiest one to get though I suspect.
But to answer your question as a one or the other. I would pick Grav as I cannot think of one midfielder in Europe that I would have over him in our team and in his role.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
