Jesus Christ, the incompetence
That would explain why the check was so quick.
Edit,- actually, **** that for an explanation. Surely the VAR could have clarified with the ref when he saw Spurs getting a free kick for offside instead of the goal being awarded?

If that's true, all it would take is telling the ref to award the goal before restarting considering they're miced up already. Apology, okay, what does that do? Game voided due to improper officiating?Originally posted by Mark79 View PostJesus Christ, the incompetence

They clearly knew there was a **** up during the game, how soon after the incident is unclear, but I am not sure what they can do about it once the match had restarted after the incident. They can't for instance say at HT we ****ed up 15 mins ago we are giving the goal retrospectively and the score is now 2-1 Liverpool. A fairer approach might be to say we will restart the game from that point and void everything that has happened maybe you could do that a minute or two later, but IMO even then that isn't right or going to happen.Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostSo my thoughts:
At what point did PGMOL know about the error?
The statement came out very quickly after the game. This implies that -
They must have been drafting that statement before the end of the game, which means that -
They must have known about the error before the game was over, which means that -
Given the implications of such an error, and given the game is still in play - why did they not do something about it when they became aware of the error?
You can't use the argument that the referee's decision is final - otherwise there'd be no need for an apology - nor VAR.
But more to the point - rather than suffer the circumstances - why not intervene? In which case any game becomes a **** show admittedly.
Still - there are a lot of questions to be answered here, which given the money increasingly involved are going to happen sooner or later. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yep. I really want to believe it was an honest error, however incompetent.Originally posted by Zapater View PostIf that's true, all it would take is telling the ref to award the goal before restarting considering they're miced up already. But you’re right, surely the VAR would have clarified when he saw the on field ref continuing without awarding the goal?.
