    Union Saint-Gilloise home Thread

Liverpool vs Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield Thursday 5th October at 8pm

So I imagine our 2 red cards don’t apply here so I imagine both players could be in line for a start. Was Nunez carrying an injury on the weekend so we didn’t play him? Jota Nunez Doak up front?

Is this the possible MacAllister brothers reunion?

They had a 3-1 win last night.

Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Go strong ish against them, play the red card players from the start and get the three points.

Think they may be the second strongest team in the group as they got to the quarter finals of the EL last season and beat the likes of Union Berlin along the way so might be the sort of team that can be awkward if the better team is not on it.

Should be putting three goals or more past them though with the forward options we have.

      Kelleher
      Gomez - Matip - Quansah - Tsimikas
      Elliott - Endo - Jones
      Doak - Jota - Diaz

Should be plenty, if Nunez was doubtful I'd rather not take any risks and start him on the weekend. Tempted to start Grav but two starts in a row might be too much for him right now.

Looking at Grav, Dom and Macca on the weekend then.
      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I'm sure we'll be fairly strong without being silly. My guess:

Kelleher (I can't believe we still have him!)
        TAA Konate Quansah Tsimikas
        Elliot Endo Grav
        Doak Nunez Jota

Really have to be beating Brighton on the weekend.
        One tit for another.

Think Jones is nailed on to start any EL games given he has a three match ban coming his way in the PL. Would be a way to keep him match sharp.

Who to drop from your midfield trio would be the question as all three need match minutes too plus Elliot has looked good any time he has played this season. Maybe 45 mins for Jones and 45 mins for one of your trio.

As for Brighton, think it was in the VVD thread some weeks back after the Netherlands played Ireland, that I said I hoped we tested Brighton's keeper a lot with crosses and shots from distance.

He flaps at crosses and seems to make half hearted attempts to punch instead of catching.

And when he does connect with a punch he seems to send the ball back out centrally to the edge of his 18 yard box.

Could see Szobo getting joy out of him or causing a dropped shot or two.

I think the person dropped from that midfield trio will probably be the one who fills in for Jones in the PL games.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I can't believe how critical Jones has become. I'm slightly dreading him not being there to cover Mac Allister against Brighton. I still don't see him starting against Union but will be be very much involved from 60 minutes onwards.

Nunez starts down the middle for me with Jota wide & Diaz on the bench. Normally I’d expect Gravenberch to start this but with the 3 match ban for Jones their roles have now been reversed.

I imagine it will be Konate. After playing the full game with 10 then 9 Joel probably needs the rest. Does Elliot move in the front 3 so Gravenberch gets some more minutes? Otherwise that team looks good and a good game for Trent to come back in to.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some of the guys who played the full game might be left off the bench with a couple other youngsters like Bobby Clarke coming in. After that effort some of the older players might need a bigger rest.

Yip you are probably right about konate matip. My thoughts were that Ibou will come back v Brighton and get Matip back on the horse after the og but you are probably right.

Or maybe a Gomez Quansah partnership with trent and simi at full back???

i might save nunez for the weekend and play harvey either side of jota. give nunez minutes from the bench if we need to give him a workout or to bail us out.

Definitely rest Nunez. Jota CF and either Elliot RW, Doak left, or keep Doak where he is and play Jones LW like he did at the Academy.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Asking Harvey to play either sides of Jota is asking a bit much for him... Remember, without corrupt UK referees we are allowed to play a match with 11

I would give Darwin 30 minutes somewhere... maybe start the young guys, see how it goes, then get 30 into his legs for the weekend
