So..... Southampton on Wednesday night. Going to be a big test as we have ****in walking wounded. It would be great if a few of our players could come back for this but dont want to jeopardise the league game at the weekend

    Something like

    Kelleher
    Bradley
    Gomez
    Quansah
    Tsimikas
    Clark
    MacAllister
    McConnell
    Gakpo
    Danns
    Nunez

      I'd rest Mac Allister.

Him and Elliott are the only 2 senior midfielders not currently injured or wearing protective boots

Worth resting Kelleher with Alisson not around? Maybe time to give Adrian a go and save Kelleher for the league?

Absolutely not. He's a keeper and barring Allison, I don't know another that gets injured so much. Might as well throw the game with Adrian. Be a really tough game as if is.

I think virgil will be rested and probably Konate.

I don't see how Endo, Elliot or Diaz start either.

I think we'll see McConnell and Clark start and possibly Danns.

Oblak, Maignan and Courtois come to mind straight away if talking about top tier keepers.

Quite a few of the very best in the game seem to miss a fair share of games.

Seems to be a bit of a trend when it comes to the more heavily built top tier keepers. Would imagine that both kicking and impacts from diving come into oplay as to the reasons why.

Also add Neuer to the list

Think the team will be something like:
                Kelleher
                Bradley
                Gomez
                Quansah
                Tsimikas
                Clark
                Slobbo
                Macca
                Gakpo
                Danns
                Nunez

Forgot about him and he also ticks the boxes for having a strong heavy build that over time with enough impact and wear and tear on the muscles and joints will break down from time to time and certainly more often than with those with a lighter build.

                    Kelleher

                    Bradley
                    Gomez
                    Quansah
                    Tsimikas

                    Clark
                    McConnell
                    Nyomi (Sp?)

                    Gakpo
                    Danns
                    Gordon

I hope we go for something like this.

Mac needs a rest, Endo is probably ****ed, don't want to risk Nunez or Dom either. Put Kane-Doherty on the bench and some youngsters. Danns, Clark and Clark will be full of confidence.

Nyoni is only 16 and still at school, not sure we would start him

He’s older than Harvey was when he made his first start for the 1st team.

Only a few months younger than Kaide Gordon was too.

I think the ideal situation would be to have an experienced player in midfield, I suspect that if at all possible we might try to give MacAllister / Elliott 45 mins each to babysit the kids in there.

Although we are in almost unprecedented territory injury wise so who knows

Or give MacAllister and Szobo 45 mins each with Elliot getting 60 or 70 mins.

Szobo will need to get some minutes into him and if fully fit then 45 against Southampton would be useful.

Could even go with starting Szobo at RM/RW and giving him a half..

On the face of it Elliott played 120mins at the weekend, where as MacAllister played just under 90mins. So I don't know if Elliott could/would play as much as that, he has obviously played alot less football over the season. I guess it comes down to what the sports science team think.

Szoboszlai and Nunez/Salah etc will depend on fitness and whether Klopp thinks they would be better with some minutes in their legs or the extra rest. I would be surprised if any of them started, may want to bring Nunez and/or Salah on for the last 20/30 mins if they are able to play. But as I say we are in unprecedented territory

                                Yes and no.

In terms of the numbers out then maybe yes a bit, but in terms of how fast the games are coming and so on. Well this is our second time being in the hunt for a quad in three seasons so possibly any perceived mistakes we may have made with regards team planning/minute management/psychology etc during the last run at a quad may pay off big time this season.

Have no idea if we will go on to win the quad but my gut feeling is that we have at least one more bit of silverware coming to us this season.

We know we can take the hits and still swing back. We know we can grind out games and also batter teams.

We have a great mix now of players who have won leagues and trophies with us or at their previous clubs along with a very healthy injection of the fearlessness that comes built into many young athletes.

A lot of teams have to be looking at us now and wondering what the hell do they have to do to knock us out of our stride and also thinking about what we are going to be capable of when the senior players start to come back to fitness and get back into the starting XI.
