What do people want or think needs to be done first a new director of football or a new manager appointed?

Sporting Director then head coach/manager.

Generally the former would have a critical role in deciding who is the best fit for the latter and be above them in the hierarchy.

Yep. Imagine some ego maniac coming is, like Comoli, who wants a complete rehaul, however undeserved. Just get a manager in who works with a good squad. Got to admit that I'd not be too unhappy to see Ancelotti

Or… imagine the manager who comes in first is a strong coach but poor at recruitment. He blows a load of money on mediocre/ill suited players.

And then when we do eventually get the Sporting Director, the manager clashes with him because he doesn’t want to relinquish the control he was initially given.

given they've already approached edwards, one would think the director is first unless something truly too good to turn down, and i can't see that out there. ancelotti maybe?

Not anywhere near good enough for liverpool. Almost 30 years managing and hes had 1 good run at celtic while the rest were average. He's being carried at Tottenham by some excellent players. Not sure why everyone thinks hes so good. Watched him through his australian and greek teams and he's always frustrated me.

Some.people just dont have great social skills, and come across poorly, and granted english is not his first language.

But he should have said his kids "have a scouce accent", instead of saying something, rolling back on it and making it sound worse.
