New Manager for Liverpool 2.0

He lost 4-1 regardless and he's won a league and cup in The Eredivisie. Getting under a past it Mourinho's skin only to get hammered is not part of my criteria for an LFC manager. I mean neither is this incident terminal to his potential success but I'm not sold and I generally dislike unmerited over-confidence.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

I'm just not sure it was an over confidence thing or just a "I don't like Mourinho" thing. Just that it played out a bit differently to the version that was said on the Second Captains podcast).
I have no idea how good or not Slot is or how good he might be at Liverpool if he comes. Gut feeling is that he will be a guy that steadies the ship and is part of a post Klopp rebuild until we go up a level in manager again.
If he comes in and smashes it, then he can be as openly confident as he likes as he will have backed it up in his work. If he comes in and is cocky but does a Tugs Hard, then he will become a figure of fun and the clock will start ticking down after a season or two.
Though there are a few Dutch players I would love to see us get so maybe he could help on that front.
Xavi Simons, Maatsen and maybe Geertruida please.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

If you were Edwards, who would you have hired?Originally posted by badpiggy View PostHe lost 4-1 regardless and he's won a league and cup in The Eredivisie. Not sure how you’re defining ‘meh’ (lack of top league titles?) but Dortmund hired a manager from a German 2nd division club, having been relegated with them and failing to achieve promotion the following season. Within 4 years, he’d won them 2 Bundesliga titlesOriginally posted by Buzzo View PostI feel about the same as I did when we got Brendan totally maxing out my meh. Roy was going to be an unmitigated disaster and Klopp was really exciting. Broadly speaking that’s exactly how their careers played out with us.
When has a club ever brought in a meh manager and they’ve delivered something within say 3 or 4 years.
I feel like pedigree and track record and having delivered something tangible at elite level (Europe or top tier European League) is a must.

Mainz manager goes to Dortmund and wins silverware, then later on goes to England and wins the Champions league amongst other bits of silverware.

That's the spirit.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostGot a feeling he's going to be total gash. But he's almost a safricial lamb anyway following klopp. He looks like a bull****ter, some people have the look. Hope I'm wrong. Let's get rid of some players before he starts so he gets a clean start.
Oh I don't know.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on these forumsOriginally posted by badpiggy View PostThis guy could be a difficult fit fanwise. Jurgen transcended cultural differences through having a huge ebullient personality, a great sense of humour that English people could relate to and total integrity. A lot of people will find a confident big personality Dutch guy hard to warm to as most Dutch people already have a fairly confident demeanour by UK and Irish standards and this can seem like really unpleasant and very unfunny arrogance. Just trying to give the xenophobic angle.

I'm underwhelmed by the idea of Slot but that comes with the caveat of it being because I just have no real inkling of how good he may or may not be.
Though the fact there are players that he manages that I would like to see at Liverpool is probably a sign that either those players might be really good in my eyes or that they are shining because they have a manager that gets the best out of them.
However I cannot think of a single manager in the game that would "whelm" me after having had Klopp in charge for close to nine years so whoever comes in will get the benefit of teh doubt once he is in charge and have the hope thrust upon him that he will become the next guy to make us believe that silverware might be on the horizon.
I can think of managers I would have chosen over Slot but that would come down to seeing the teams they manage on tv more often than seeing Slot's team or in the case of Alonso a big dollap of sentiment along with thinking he is a really good up and coming manager.
I can also think of much bigger name managers I would hate to see at the club and would take the unknown in Slot over what I think those guys would be like.
If he comes to LFC, I hope he come in the door with a big swagger and then shows that the swagger is very much warranted.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I'd begun to feel some sense of whelm with Amorim, big time with Alonso. Who knows, maybe Slot will get some sooner or later. De Zerbi gets me a bit whelmed.Modifying post.

Some of the comments are Astounding. He is soon to be the boss, everyone should be getting behind him now instead of nitpicking aspects of his character in a completely unreasonable fashion.
Klopp is soon to be gone, Slot might not be everyone’s first choice but fortune favours the bold. Every top coach has to step up at some point. I’ll be giving him my full backing, roll on August.

I understand people’s feelings especially after Klopp and everything he represents and the way he just had that special aura about him.
But what I’m hopeful about is the way we’ve gone about picking Slot. We had such a successful method for signing players that took us back to the top which gave Klopp everything he needed to succeed. Why can’t that system of data analysis be used to pick the right coach? And with that back in play with players again as well we can feel more confident in the transition.
Everything I’ve seen Feyenoord fans say is exactly what we say about Klopp. Hopefully once we start to hear him talk and show what he’s about it will allow him to show us his personality and that he has power, that the people who have picked believe he has, needed to run this club and build on what we’ve seen under Klopp. One thing I know is as a fan group I’m sure most of will back him and give him time which other clubs don’t always do.
