One thing from a gold hard business perspective is that the academy should pay for itself at worst and be profitable while supplying the first team at best. We were good at this for a while (Brewster, Ibe, Wilson etc) but not do much recently. We’ve a great crop coming through into the first team which is amazing but not all of them will make the team so hopefully we can sell them “well”

City are really good at this which is very annoying

I think most of those players need seasoning at the very least. Its easy to come in with momentum of the 1st team, and Klopp managing. But the opportinities are not going to be there like they are now during a freak injury storm. A few subs appearences are not really going to help develop.

Elliott and Bradley did great on loan. Morton is also doing well. I expect he will be in contention with Bajetic next season.

I think you need a consistent run of games to be considered for the first team. Quansah and TAA managed to get that, but it might be hard for any of the others to manage it anytime soon. Owen Beck might be the next one to get a chance as Robbo gets older, but all the other positions are well stocked when everyone is fit. Maybe Ramsey too.

Thats why loans are important. There is not always a path open regardless of how good a young player may be if everyone is fit. If Diaz was fit either Koumas or Danns may not have got on the pitch last night.

Its pretty exciting though. Be nice to see the kids keep going, but we cant afford to muck about on the league. Man U may not be the game either, but the Uefa cup may be perfect (although Klopp might want to add it to his collection).

I think it's going to be interesting to see where we feel Morton is when he gets back from his loan. He is 21 now and has a few games experience for us plus a couple of season loan in the Championship. I suspect we are approaching crunch time for him either we would feel than he is capable of doing a job for us and we keep as a squad player and try to develop him further from there or he moves on in the summer or a year from then would be my guess. The change in manager is likely to put players like him at a bit of a disadvantage and perhaps the likes of Clark and McConnell have moved ahead of him because people have been able to see what they can do in an LFC shirt. You would imagine had he not been out on loan he would probably have been one of the players who would have been getting minutes here. This is where the loan or not to loan situation gets complicated IMO

My feeling generically would be that Klopp would probably have been looking at bringing the youngsters who have been out on loan back and evaluating them over the summer. The situation with a change of manager complicates things somewhat...

From an outside point of view grouping them by age seems the easiest thing to do, I suspect the staff have a more personalised approach)

21/22 age group: Morton, van den Berg, Carvalho (excluding Quansah as he's established in the squad).
These guys have had at least a couple of season worth of football elsewhere either on loan or in the case of Carvalho before he joined us and on loan subsequently. So we should have a fairly good idea of what they can do I feel the summer and next season is make or break for them, either they will be integrated into the squad or they will be sold. Once they are over 21 they need to be registered in the main squads to play for use so this is something of a tipping point. We might choose to keep some of them around for those reasons (they count as HG)

20/21 age group: Bradley, Ramsay, Beck
Bradley I feel has demonstated that he has enough to be a first team squad option, so I would expect him to stick around, the other guys have a bit of loan experience but I suspect they would probably go out on loan again unless they show a Bradley style step up in the summer. The fact that Bradley and Ramsay are competing for the same spot complicates things somewhat, the fact that Bradley will likely stick around almost necessitates that Ramsay goes out on loan.

19/20 age group: Scanlon and Chambers
Have a bit of first team experience here, but haven't been on season long loans I would imagine that is the next step.

18/19 age group: McConnell, Clark, Danns, Gordon, Doak
This group is where it gets tricky these are the ones that have contributed most to the last few games, it feels like a balancing act between going down the TAA/Jones route of staying at LFC and trying to get them game time where possible and going out on loan for more game time in the hope of developing faster, this more than any other group I feel is a judgement call for the first team and academy coaching staff.

            Younger: Nyoni
Too young really to go out on loan, get more experience at youth level first

The important thing to note is you can never win anything with kids...

We've all been given a taste of the kids now, and begun to get to know them. I think it will be hard for a new manager not to keep them around.
