not good enough for lfc nd the scouser obsession.

can we have an amnesty on this phrase as it seems to be developing into a cop out for cogent debate. zenden- not good enough for lfc but was mysteriously good enough for barcelona and the dutch national team and is lets face it a squad player who was signed for free, give the lad a break we aint going t sign barton or parker with the promise of being 4th choice centre mid.

pennant- not good enough according to so many yet hasnt yet settled, it may well be that he doesnt make it and he was overpriced but the latter aint his business, personally at the time i hoped we didnt sign him but now he's here i'll give him a season at least. if he was scouse and had come through the academy he would be lauded for his level of performance.

which brings up the next point just because a player playing somewhere else is scouse doesnt mean we should sign them, cases in point joey barton, kevin nolan and leighton baines. all decent players who are all at the right level for them, were they not scousers they would be getting the not good enough for lfc treatment imho.

finally what would have been the reaction to some of our past signings, i dread to think of that chubby winger from that team of hoofers who had one moment for england three years ago. what are we doing using money from selling ian f**king rush buying journeymen from oxford. and god help that lanky bambi on ice looks like he'll get blown over in a strong breeze from patrick thistle- are we replacing crazy horse with him ffs! all not good enough for lfc, never will be nd those tht disagree can go cheer the bitters! and dont get me started on that gimp from middlesbrough.

Fair point i suppopse! Probably if we had won the title 3 or 4 years ago then maybe we would be more patient with newbies. Yet with 20 years edging closer and the manc ****s edging closer to OUR record, then we are all getting edgy and nervous and kind of want it now, hence the fact new players are not getting enough time to settle in

Good post We should support the club and not knock new players before they get a proper chance to prove themselves. Too many over the top reactions to results and players IMO. When we got a draw away to PSV in the first CL game the reaction on here by a few posters was a bit OTT. Look at it now, we have qualified top of the group with the most difficult game in the group just a formality. We can now just go out and enjoy a trip down memory lane.

You seem to be contradicting yourself slightly there, while I think you're right in that we shouldn't judge players too soon, a few things are quite clear

Zenden isn't good enough for LFC, he might have played for Barca, Chelsea etc but he's getting on a bit and his best years are behind him now.

You're happy to castigate fans for saying Pennant isn't good enough for LFC (which is still up in the air and he should quite rightly be given more time), but then you're saying yourself that players like Barton, Nolan aren't good enough for LFC (which they probably aren't), when Pennant is probably the same level of footballer as those.

I see your point Morph, but I think the general point is spot on.

Some of the abuse that Pennant is getting is totally over the top. I'm not convinced he will be a success but I'm prepared to wait a little longer than November.

There were people on here delighted he got injured on Wednesday FFS!

Like I said I'm happy to give him time, but there clearly are players who aren't good enough for LFC so there are times when the phrase is perfectly acceptable.

What a ****e post, Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Leyton Baines are all excellent young players, whether there scousers or not is irrelevant but yeah i suppose it helps a little, passion factor etc.
So there not LFC standard? Well tell me what ****ing players are then that we have a realistic chance of buying?

If they were all born and bred within 10 mile of OT we wouldn't be interested at all would we?

Mate cash has got nothing to do with, we're used to seeing quality players at LFC, wether we have a realistic chance of buying these top players or not is irrelevant. Some of the mentioned might be decent squad players, but they really shouldn't be anywhere near the first team.

If Zenden was "good enough for Barcelona," why isn't he still there?

If he "was good enough for the Netherlands" why doesn't he play for them more often?

I'm happy to give him a bit more time, and playing him in centre midfield is never going to work, but I don't think he's that good.

Its a long time since we've had enough of them, and IMO cash ( or the lack of it ) certainly has at least something to do with it.

Pennant is crap and Barca were crap when Zenden was playing for them.

I thought that Zenden seemed to have improved dramatically in some recent games, whereas, I agree, he looked past it earler in the season.
