    Pre Season 24-25

I just saw this article saying Slot has decided to bring PS forward a week to get to know the lay of the land. And we’ve got 3 PS matches lined up in the US.

    Real Betis (July 27),
    Arsenal (July 31)
    Man United (August 4)

New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will start work with his new squad earlier than planned, having made a big change to their dates for pre-season.

Liverpool final campaign under Jurgen Klopp was a difficult one, playing 58 fixtures – the third-most in a single season of his reign – and dropping off in an emotional climax.

For most players that will be followed by international commitments, including the Euros and Copa America, before holiday and then rejoining for pre-season.

Work at the AXA Training Centre will get underway earlier than planned, with the Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe reporting that Slot has already moved the start of pre-season forward a week.

“Slot has brought his first pre-season training sessions forward by a week – the squad will reconvene in the first week of July – so he can begin acclimatising to his new environment,” Bascombe writes.

“Those representing their country at Euro 2024 and Copa America will return later, depending on how far they progress in the tournament.”

Liverpool’s first pre-season friendlies are currently scheduled for the end of July and into August, with Real Betis (July 27), Arsenal (July 31) and Man United (August 4) opponents on a tour of the United States.

But it could be that low-profile domestic fixtures are pencilled in before then at Slot’s request, with it clear that the Dutchman wants to put his stamp down early.

Still, a balance will need to be struck between allowing players the time off they feel they need and giving enough opportunity to adjust to the new head coach’s ideals.

Pre-season will kick off at the AXA Training Centre, with Slot supported by members of his old backroom staff from Feyenoord.

New backroom yet to be announced

Though their appointments are yet to be confirmed, the 45-year-old is expected to bring assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff (pictured), head of performance Ruben Peeters and technical advisor Etienne Reijnen with him to Merseyside.

There had been doubts over whether Hulshoff could be involved from the start of pre-season, as he held the same role in the Netherlands national team staff

But the 49-year-old has now vacated his post in Ronald Koeman’s backroom, with his focus entirely on Liverpool.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Too soon. We all need a break for a month or so from football

      Gotta feel for Andy Robertson.

Less than two weeks from the Euros final to our first pre-season game. That's not rest at all.

I’m more interested in this off season than most to get an idea of what Slot & Co are planning. There’ll be loads of speculation but that’s inevitable.

Spurs are playing Newcastle here in Oz tonight so it’s not over until Spurs through another match

Nice to hear that’s he’s willing to do that and will be there from the start.

That early date will give the younger players and loan returnees more of a chance to show what they’ve got to offer.

Agree with that. Here’s hoping a few of the England lads get left behind by Southgate

Hood. These wasters decided to go on holiday in february. Still annoyed At how they lost their heads so easily and made Klopps leaving less than it should have. They played less games thahn previous seasons too. I'm still furious they made him cry last season with their abysmal efforts. If Slot brings them back early and sees they're still half arsed, he'll be able to pick who to get rid of quicker for replacements.

Nah in Feb they were going great. From 31st Jan to the 2nd of March we had 5 wins from 6 PL games. The loss being against Arsenal.

                  March was fine too.

April and May however.... 3 wins from 9 games

does anyone think there is a prayer of a friendly in Dublin this year ? I'm guessing not when there hasn't been a single rumour about it by now, but i would be well happy to be wrong

There is a rumour of a game in Cork (vs Cork City FC). Not a first team friendly though, a youth team one like the pre season game that was held in Turners Cross about 9 or 10 years ago.

The likes of Woodburn, TAA, Kelleher, Brewster, Masterson and Kane played that day against the Cork City first team.

Apparantly a number of PL clubs were approached about either a proper friendly or for a youth team to come over for one, and talks are meant to be at an advanced stage with an unnamed club. Am a season ticket holder there and as ST holders get priority access to non ST games, was told about the chance of a "name" friendly taking place in mid July

Limerick will be in da house, bud

Young Offenders scrapping the Rubber Bandits as the half time entertainment

Don't fancy your chances tonight though. Treaty are on a horrible run of form and Cork are undefeated in the league this season with a really mean defence.

Very much a George Graham type team is the current Cork team.Don't score a lot but only let in 5 goals from 16 games for far this season. If we had a regular goal getter the team would be a very good one. Still ten points clear at the top without one though.

Though you did get a draw against us up at your place.

Do Treaty bring much by way of support to away games this season? We tend to usually have between 3k and 5k at Turners Cross. Tonight should have a decent home crowd as it is a Friday night kick off and the weather should be ok.

Might be a first division team (though that looks like it will change after this season) but we get crowds that beat most of what the Premier league teams over here get.

Also a big crowd too when we play Cobh ( local derby), Kerry, Dundalk (pretty sure there is a Dundalk fan on this forum too but forgotten who the fecker is ) or one of the Dub teams.

You see a beardy man tonight by one of the 40 year banners close to pitch side and you might have found me

Good result for Treaty against us last night.

We still stay 10 points clear at the top of the league, but taking a point home from an away game against Cork is big for Treaty.

Do see us struggling if/when we get promoted to the Premier league next season unless some smart moves get made in the transfer window. Our back line and midfield is of top division standard, but our front line is a decent rather than stand out first division level.

Really good atmosphere last night it has to be said. Not a big crowd down from Limerick but you could hear them at times.

We were bouncing in the home stands as usual. Flags and banners aplenty. Cork City FC being such a yo yo club at times make them a great club to have a ST for. One season you are being relegated, then a season or two later you are making a push for either the first or Premier league title.

Be a regular at Turners Cross for even as little as ten years and you will get to experience every aspect of the ups and downs of footy

And despite that and regardless of what division they are in they tend to draw some of the biggest crowds in Irish domestic footy. A relegation season will draw the same amount of bums in stands as a title chasing one.
