Brentford at home Sunday 25th Aug

Late KO of 1630 local time

I wonder if Carvalho makes an appearance against us & what sort of reception he gets.

    Ali
Trent, Ibou, VVD, Robbo or Timmy
    Macca Ryan
    Elliot
    Mo, Jota, Diaz
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Tougher test than Ipswich incoming with this lot.

Physical as hell when they do not have the ball and then on the ball they tumble to the ground at even the hint of contact.

Plenty of pace in the side too, especially on their flanks. Big chance that Toney will not start which will be a pity imo as they have more pace to put in the team when he is out and they tend to have two of three attacking points without him whereas when he is in the team they tend to use him as the main attacking option and I would fancy either of Konate or VVD to handle him.

Fully expect them to go really hard at us in terms of a mix of pressing like maniacs and also feigning fouls to break up play for the first 45 minutes.

Get an early goal to force them out of their gameplan or outlast them a la Ipswich and then pop a few goals past them in the second half.

Happy it is a home game though and not at their place as they are far more dogged at their place.

Carvalho and Sepp VDB should be able to give them a solid insight into our tactical approach.

Had not realised it was completed yesterday until I read your post and then checked.

Will Quansah come back in, or would it be safer to have Konate on the field against the physicality of Brentford?

Konate for me based on his form against Ipswich and also based on how Quansah was in the same game.

Brentford have a lot more pace and physicality upfront in their team compared to Ipswich.

Quansah is a cracking young player, but a fit and firing Konate is still the better player.

Slot said Quansah had a small injury in training this week and missed a training day, so I expect it will be Konate.

To be honest, I didn't think either Quansah or VVD were brilliant in the first half against Ipswich, could have made a case for either of them coming off.

Now, Elliott or Szobo...for me I feel Elliott did nothing wrong in pre-season and was quite surprised to see him on the bench last week. Didn't think Szobo had a stand out game, but we won so maybe Slot will stick with a winning team, with a good, strong bench.

Szob was crap first half but very good second. I’d still agree that Harvey should be given a go.

With Gomez back in the squad hopefully.

One purpose of rotation is to keep players' match fitness up, so we mustn't go too long without giving time to Harv, Curtis and Darwin. TAA and Robbo have both had a further week's training under their belts now, so maybe we won't be subbing 3 of the back five this time and those three, even if initially on the bench, might get on.

Szobo made some very important sprints to cover defence in the first half with his pace, without him, Ipswich might have scored on those counters.

His pace and pressing is better than Elliot’s so I’d keep him in.

Having the number 10 press higher along with the wide men looked better than a lot of the pressing last season from the forward line.
