I haven't seen any of those links. I'd love to see Yildiz in a red shirt. That boy can play and is as tough as you like with it. Would be a superb Diaz replacement IMHO.

Semenyo has nothing on Mane, who was a truly exceptional player (both for us and Southampton). I get why some people would draw a comparison between them, for the reasons you have stated, but there is a gulf in quality to be bridged before that comparison is worthwhile. A gulf I don't see Semenyo ever closing, not even close.

Agree on the quality gulf with Mane. The only comparisons I would make between the two of them are them being notable in terms of being able to play in a lot of positions and both seemingly having high levels of physical attributes.

I say seemingly as I have not seen enough of Semenyo to say that for sure.

The Yildiz links I have seen online (Yeah I know, the nadir of reliability ) and on one or two shows.

I liked the rumour so decided to put some stock in it

I'm not sure Chiesa is the standard required long term but he does put in a shift & we need that energy and attitude at the moment. Regardless of whether I think he is the answer to our right side woes, he has not been given a fair shot by Slot.

Gakpo is more than fine on the left imo as long as we get the balance right on the other flank and have pace to go with quality on that side. Think you need a direct sort of threat on at least one flank be it through pace and/or the ability to pump good chances in to a forward game after game.

Don't think anyone sees Chiesa as a long term solution, but he would certainly be, imo of course, a good short to medium term contributor that brings more positives than negatives pretty much every time he plays.

That way we carry threat from both flanks.

For me the answer to that is a yes.

Is difficult to know if he has another level or two to go up and be what we need, or if his level is similar to or lower than a similar ages player in Gakpo.

Gakpo generally putting up better numbers in terms of G + A over the past five to six season, and putting up better chance creation numbers in that time.

Semenyo may well be a better player than Gakpo. One that brings a more direct fast and physical threat. But for 65m or 75m, whatever the real release clause is, I would want more than a guy that might be better than Gakpo in terms of what he brings himself in terms of threat and what he brings to the team unit in terms of knitting things together.

For me I would prefer to be more looking at who we can bring in on the right flank with that money and have that new threat on the right with a tried and tested player in Gakpo on the left, than to be replacing Gakpo on the left with a guy that may be far better than Gakpo or that may be on the same level and all the while still needing to make a big change on the right.

Of course that is just talking attackers. If we have money to spend in January, my overall preference is for the CB position to be what we look to reinforce first and foremost.

Sure we could upgrade upon him in the future, but right now I think him playing more, be it as a starter or a sub, would add more threat to our attack and add more work rate off the ball.

Very good point. He did link up very well with Boniface at Leverkusen. He also linked up a hell of a lot with Wirtz from the right flank too.

He’s a bit out of the usual age profile for an attacking player that we’d usually go for. He’ll be 26 in January although we did sign Isak who’s similar. If you look at the age of the other attacking players I’d prefer the club look for someone in that 21-23 age range that’s ready to hit the next level. That’s what they’ve generally done with the owners and it’s worked.

I don’t watch him enough to comment on how good he is or what’s he would offer but someone in that lower age range to come in on the right side would be nice. Unless Frimpong is seen as a long term option as a Mo replacement. But some more pace is definitely needed in the wide roles.

But his versatility is appealing and you can see why he would be a target.

Antoine Semenyo can play on either the left or the right, as he is a versatile and highly two-footed winger. He has played on both the left and right wings almost equally and can use both his left and right foot proficiently. This ambidexterity makes him unpredictable and a threat from either flank.
Versatile winger: Semenyo operates as a winger in a traditional 4-2-3-1 formation, but can also play in various attacking midfield and forward positions.
Left or Right: He can play on the left wing, cutting in or going past players, or on the right wing. His heat maps show activity on both sides of the pitch.
Two-footed: His comfort with both feet means he can drive to the byline or cut inside with equal ease. Some reports note his shots and goals are split evenly between his left and right foot.
Tactical advantage: His ability to play on either side is a significant tactical advantage, allowing coaches to deploy him based on opponent or strategy.

Thanks for the response and taking the time to pull all that together

I still don't know where he plays mostly for Bournemouth unless they are changing his starting positions on a very regular basis to account for what you posted.

The times I have seen Bournmeouth this season and last season, he seemed to be mostly on the left wing.

Guess what I am trying to figure out is which flank is he best one.

Mane could play on both flanks and play as a centre forward or a support striker, but he was most effective on the left. A lot of people have compared Semenyo to Mane so wondering if the same if true with regards to his "best" position.

Genuine question as I was under the assumption he was mainly a left sided attacker, but if he has played a lot on the right then that changes who he might replace if he joined us.

Am curious as we seem to be getting linked with Yildiz a lot at present too as an alternative to Semenyo and Yildiz is a LW that cam play Am afaik.

Semenyo's production has declined for sure & he was massively out peforming his xg but it's just 5 league games in which he hasn't returned & as a team in general they have been ****... maybe he wants out and a move to LFC is in his mind.

As for Chiesa, on the one hand I do think he hasn't got a fair shake at all(he definitely hasn't) & he has always showed a great attitude/put in a shift when he's came on but I also think.. lets not pretend he's a amazing player either. In saying that, he would be perfectly within his rights in wanting out in fairness as Slot doesn't seem to rate him at all... same with Endo. Both have been massively over looked.

The problem for me is we can't see how good he could be for us, as he hasn't got a run of games.

His pace might be gone (perhaps) but he still has incredible technique, is two footed, physical enough to win his battles, and the engine (this season at least) to run hard for a full 90+ minutes

He also makes things happen when he comes on (which someone said earlier) so without knowing what goes on at training, it seems crazy that he hasn't got more of a run this season

It's not like any of our attackers are ripping it up this seasin

I also think Semenyo is having a purple patch in terms of G/A and is generally overrated.

A purple patch that seems to have ended. He is without a goal since 3rd October and without an assist since 16th October.

That would be four or five games.

Looking at Bournemouth's ststs did remind me of something that I had forgotten about. We got 25 million from them for Ben Doak in the summer.

I also did not know Doak goes by the surname of Gannon-Doak now and that is what is on the back of his Bournemouth top. Something to do with wanting to have the surnames of both parents on his back.
