    Milan away 17/9/24 8pm

    On to the next one.

Surely some changes? Which of Gakpo / Nunez / Chiesa to start?

Endo / Macca / Curtis mid

Same defence maybe Tsmikas at LB? Need to rotate due to volume of games, but we also need rhythm.
    Modifying post.

As long as we don't put Trent in midfield I'll be OK with whatever team we do put out. Today was a huge anomaly.

You can only say anomaly once there's results either side. Anomaly is used in the past tense

Salah should be nowhere near this game. Rest for the league. Chiesa to come in.

****s sake. I'm paying for TNT, partly to get the European games.

And now they're not even showing them all?

The greed within football is sickening.

Think I'll ask them for a discount / refund.

‘I missed it’: Virgil van Dijk relishing Liverpool’s Champions League return

Arne Slot’s side visit Milan on back of first defeat

‘I can’t wait to hear the Champions League tune’

Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool are back where they need to be as he prepares to lead the club upon their return to Champions League duty in Milan on Tuesday.

Liverpool competed in the Europa League last season, eventually bowing out in the quarter-finals to Atalanta. Liverpool go back to Italy after losing for the first time under Arne Slot, against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, delivering a subpar performance against the team that finished 17th last season. They will face a Milan team that have won one of their opening three Serie A fixtures.

“I missed it,” Van Dijk said of the Champions League. “I can’t wait to be out there hearing the Champions League tune and leading out the boys. A club like Liverpool needs to be in the Champions League and we are finally back and let’s go out there and put a much better performance in than we did today [Saturday] as it is needed otherwise you are going to have an issue.

“I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully all our fans travelling over there to support us will be in high spirits and loud voices.”

It is a quick turnaround from the loss to Forest with Liverpool only having two days to recover before they take on the club they beat in miraculous circumstances in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul. The Merseyside club have a tough collection of fixtures in the new league format, with Bologna, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Real Madrid to come before the end of November.

“[We need to] keep going and keep working and make sure the performances don’t go in that direction,” Van Dijk said after the defeat against Forest.

“We all know how the atmosphere can change but that is also part of the influence from outside which could affect you. We have a very good group that really understand that Saturday was unacceptable and are disappointed. We all know everyone can do better and we have to show that on Tuesday and that is what we focus on. We have been through losses and difficult moments together and I think we have to stay calm and we will stay calm.

“Hopefully if there are no injuries happening then rhythm is always a good thing. We need the whole squad and we know after the international break it will be a game every three days so we need everyone in their best shape and best form.”

Should be a host of changes for this one, got to keep the squad fresh. I wonder if Kelleher will get some CL games, or will he just be saved for the English cup games?

I'd kinda like to see something along these lines, give all the first 11 a rest. But we won't cos it's AC Milan and we have to take it seriously. (So would expect to see a few first 11 players rested, the rest rotated in subs).

                    Kelleher
                    Bradley - Gomez - Quansah - Tsimikas
                    Endo - Morton
                    Chiesa - Jones - Gakpo
                    Nunez

If it was being played at Anfield, I think we might risk a lot of changes but with it being an away game we might look to keep at least six or seven of the outfield players from Saturday as starters.

Maybe at the back something like

                      -----------------------Alisson----------------------
                      Bradley-------Quansah-------VVD----------Gomez

                      Then in the middle

                      MacAllister----Gravenberch----Jones

Up front we could change the entire front three if we wanted to and go with

                      Chiesa-----Nunez-----Gakpo

But I suspect Salah will start and maybe Diaz also.

Looking at the Milan team, they have plenty of attacking pace at full back and on the wings and have a mix of physicality and pace in attack and in the middle so whilst not the team they once were, they are very much a threat.

                      Cracking goalkeeper too in Maignan.

Interestingly, well maybe not that interesting lol, they do have a number of players in their team that we were linked with in the recent past.

I think this is where we start to find out about Slot's willingness to rotate. 2 games a week and coming in off the back of a poor performance and international break. In this situation you would probably have expected Klopp to have made a few changes at the weekend and a few changes back plus a few others here.

For me not a chance he goes with anything like the team you posted (Klopp wouldn't have done either) my feeling is we will probably make 2 or 3 changes
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

All my optimism from the first few games is gone. Think we'll lose this and have our first mini-crisis under Slot.

                            No big deal though.

All managers, and especially new ones, get them.

Klopp dropped points in three of his first four league games for us and had three or four more mini crisis moments that season where were dropped points in two or three games in a row in the league.

Hell looking at how we ended that season, we dropped points in four of the final five games in the league too.

Klopp's record from his first 30 league games with us was W13 D9 L8
