    Trey Nyoni

Young Trey signed his first professional contract with us today aged just 17. Hopefully big things to come for this lad.

Trey Nyoni has capped a breakthrough year at Liverpool by signing his first professional contract at the club. The 17-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Reds after forcing his way into the first-team reckoning since arriving from Leicester City in August 2023.

Nyoni became the third youngest debutant in Liverpool's history and the youngest player to appear for the club in the FA Cup when, aged 16 years and 243 days, he featured as substitute in the fifth round win over Southampton in

A few days earlier, the teenager had claimed the first major honour of his career when he was on the bench for the League Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Nyoni was given opportunities during pre-season under new boss Arne Slot and scored in the 4-1 friendly victory over Sevilla at Anfield in August.

On his arrival at the start of last season, Nyoni quickly progressed from the under-18 side - scoring a late derby winner against Everton on his home debut - and is now a regular with the U21s. And he captained the U19 side in their UEFA Youth League opener at AC Milan last month, which ended in a goalless draw.

Nyoni, who was on the bench earlier this month for the Champions League win over Bologna, has this week been with the England U18s squad in their latest get-together in Marbella and started the 3-1 win over Ukraine on Monday.

Really? That’s a lot of cash for a 17 yr old. Hope he’s got good advisors around him.

Not a bad full debut. One mistake that thankfully didn’t cost us but I’m sure Slot would be happy with that from a 17 year old

He's either 5 years too early or ****. Unless he was told to play as cowardly as possible, then he succeeded.

you can't be calling a kid **** on the back of a full debut in the league cup.

Often showed for the ball and was tidy without being brave or flash. All you can ask for on a debut really, especially when he’s so young.

Of course he is a bit early/green/raw, he is only 17 afterall.

Very difficult to judge him right now as we are looking at him and comparing him with older players with more experience under their belts.

Hell even guys that we regard as prospects like Quansah and Elliot are years ahead of him in terms of development. Pretty sure when he was 17 that we were not making our minds up on Quansah so the same needs to apply to Nyomi.

Last night would have been a massive jump up for him and he did alright for the most part. It will have done him a world of good, similar to training with the senior team.

Is he nailed on to be a success? Who knows, only a handful of players per decade ever look sure bets at 17, but if last night was anything to go by he showed signs that by the time he hits 20 or 21 we might be talking about how he is a useful part of the squad and how he is starting to look like he might be ready to jump up a level again.

Think we need to get used to the idea of showing more patience to our young prospects and treat them all the way we treat Elliot. Elliot only now starting to be a regular squad option despite being raved about when he was 17 or 18 as well.

The worldies usually are established starters by 21 or 22. The ones that *only" turn out to be really good players tend to take another couple years again to get established as first teamers.

100% he played 86 mins against a side battling for their survival. That team had never played together before competitively either, and the subs we made impacted his role during the game.

Our formation was also fluid, and he had to adapt to that, too. He didn't set the world on fire, and he made one or two mistakes, but given his age and experience, I think he did pretty well.

I'm more interested to see how he plays when he comes on in a Prem game with the rest of the first team around him.
We are here for a good time not a long time....

Well I did say **** or 5 years too early. Which pathway you want to go down is multiple choice. Mind you we played a struggling southampton who did almost nothing for 3/4 of th ematch but sit back and I didnt see him try to press much. Constantly passing backwards. At that age you'd sort of want to impress against a team not moving much. At least show me hunger.

Wow. I don't think you like young players, you seem to write them off as soon as you see them. That's Doak, Morton and now Nyoni sent to room 101 already.

I thought he did ok given the circumstances, one mistake aside. Good to see him get an opportunity. He is still very young and quite small in build so will have some issues with the physical nature of the game until he either grows a bit more and/or gets more experienced in dealing with it. To me he is looking like he will need a loan move or two at some point, not sure if next year is the right time or if that will come a bit soon for him, but we need to be looking at that as an option.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
