Everton away Wednesday 12th Feb 730pm

The last Goodison derby so let’s inflict some more pain on them. Glad the FA Cup is out of the way as trying to compete on all 4 fronts is out of the question. Shame about Gomez getting injured AGAIN but it was good to see others get minutes.

    Ali

    Bradley , Ibou, Virg, Robbo

    Szobo, Gravenberch, Macca

    Mo, Nunez, Gakpo
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Everything but the 9 picks itself right now.

Diaz has dropped off, Jota is only just back. Nunez probably gets the nod right now and I doubt was meant to come on today and was only there as an emergency.

In the full team with Mo and Gakpo scoring regularly the pressure is off a bit and he can be the nuisance and combine with Dom to start the defence and press them non stop.

It will be interesting to see how they play. It might be a bit more open than it would have been previously but I doubt it will be that open.

This will be a massive game from our point of view it's our game in hand. For them it is their cup final and chane to dent our title campaign, it is their history, not only is it the last derby at Goodison, but we have as many derby wins there, the will be desperate not to leave with us having a better record there. The crowd will be up for it and I can see their players smashing into us from the off. We need a strong refereel
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

“Michael Oliver has been appointed as the referee for the upcoming Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. His officiating team includes assistants Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring, with Tony Harrington serving as the fourth official. Chris Kavanagh will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), assisted by Eddie Smart. “

So the Ref who saw nothing wrong with Pickford’s assault on Virgil and the VAR who missed the ødegaard hand ball.

Oliver has been to Saudi and UEA to officiate in the past too.

At this stage the PGMOL refs have all made mistakes against us or shown bias, I’m not sure there is a ‘strong’ ref left and & do worry about the potential for injuries if they lose.
We are here for a good time not a long time....

Now I'm feeling nervous. The FA Cup game was a good distraction but that buffer is over. If our players can turn up then no reason to fear this game. However, it's never that simple.

I hate the derby probably more than any other fixture

Not convinced this is the game to start Nunez, fully expect Everton to sit deep and look to bully and wind-up our players. But, with Diaz and Jota having played the full match on Sunday, I think (unless Slot goes for a formation change) it is inevitable that the front line will be Gakpo, Nunez and Salah. Rest of the team picks itself, so Curtis will be on the bench, hopefully alongside Trent (not that I don't want Trent in the starting line-up, but if he's on the bench at least that means he's getting back to full fitness again).

If we go 2-3 goals up I’ll love it but until then I’m nervous as hell. This is their everything, their GF, their season defining match etc, for us it’s just 3 points. But I don’t watch them so I don’t know if this Everton side has the stomach for the badge like previous editions. Am I right or wrong?

Nunez's height will also be useful when we are defending set pieces. Hopefully he'll be motivated by a bit of the physical stuff too.

With Moyes back in charge, there may be a few up for a fight, certainly Pickford and Young, maybe Tarkowski and Keane.
