That was a good hit out & despite quite a few players playing out of position I didn’t mind it at all. Rio with the 1st goal of the game & an assist for the 2nd just goes to show we’ve got a great talent on our hands here. Doak looked much better & I think another loan deal is better than selling him at this stage. Pleased also with Trey’s showing at CB & hoping bringing him off was just a precaution . Macca got a handy 60 minutes into his legs & Jones looked very confident & composed. Harvey got better & took his goal well but certainly looked to be saying his goodbyes. If we are going to play 4213 I do wonder if we don’t get a serious offer if we keep him
Wirtz is a serious talent & isn’t afraid to track back & get stuck in. And how good is it so see a RB who races back in defence with serious pace. Szoboszlai is an absolute machine & drives us forward. Ekitike seems to be settling in well & pleased to see him get an assist. Gravenberch just gets better & better & im amazed how well he’s adapted to the deeper position that he’s made his own. Endo got caught out a few times but just about got away with it. I really hope Konate signs an extension as he was class again today.
Oh and a penny for the thoughts of Will Wright. He was told to turn up for U21’s training & next minute he’s told to head to Anfield to be on the bench for the A team & to actually get on for the last 15 minutes. Pinch me moment or what
I was in the Anfield Road end last night – it was ridiculous as they actually ran out of food during half time of the first game! Families were having to leave early to feed their kids
Observations on some of the new players:
Wirtz - dare I say it - looks like the closest thing I’ve seen to a hybrid of Kenny & Litmanen; his movement & vision is fantastic
Frimpong is quite small but a real livewire & full of energy
Kerkez reminded me of a quicker Steve Finnan – very solid & gets forward well too
Etikete is very direct & powerful
Mamardashvili made one great save that I can recall – pretty solid in terms of playing the ball out
Rio – great goal; bags of potential but needs time in the oven to learn how to look up - definitely should be involved in cup games.
All in all 3-2 was not a reflection of how the game went we should have scored at least 3 or 4 more & the goals we conceded were sloppy
Bring on Palace...
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

How was Gravenberch and Gakpo in terms of movement?
"We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies."
Yeah Endo dealt with a much taller physical player well. He’s actually pretty good in the air for a shorter player.
Dom looks really fired up to make sure he’s not the one to lose his spot with Wirtz around. He was everywhere and looked absolutely quality in the deeper role.
Endo as 3rd/4th choice CB, with Gomez ahead of him when fit? Is this why we are not going to be pushed into buying Guehi for a price we deem too high?
Think going into a season with Gomez and Endo as our 3rd and 4th choices is just looking for trouble.
Have no issue with Endo (or Gravenberch) filling in at CB in a pinch or in elage cup games or dead rubber CL games, but think our 1st to 4th choice CBs should all be CBs and not midfielders or full backs (Robertson or Kerkez).
Gomez and Konate are both prone to missing games so we, imo, need at least one CBs that is good enough to play a sustained run of games if needed and maybe we need even two more CBs that meet that criteria.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Szob was easily man of the match. And it shouldn't have been easy as we played breathless football at times. Macca and Grav now need to up their games if they want to stay off the bench. Great isn't it?
Add in Jones too. Gravenberch, Alexis, Dom and Jones with Endo and Nyoni as depth as Dom and Jones might have to cover a couple other roles. Those 4 battling it out for two spots is some quality depth.
Joyce came out with an article today about CB options and that the club is going to sign someone.

Yes completely agree with this - we'd be negligent not buying another CB that can slot straight in.
Happy then for Endo / Robbo to be our 5th / emergency CB but just relying on a 34 year old VVD, injury prone & contract shy Konate and a constantly injured Gomez is asking for trouble
I'd be shocked if that was the case, andI do think it's likely we end up with Guehi, probably for 45m quid or so right at the end of the window
