    Swp?

Haven't been on for a couple of days. Just wondered if there had been any discussion about West Ham making an approach for SWP today and Chavski saying they would be open to an approach.

Shouldn't we be making a bid? Personally I think Pennant has been a waste of money and won't ever make the impact we need. SWP on the other hand just needs games. You don't become a **** player overnight and he was a class player at Citeh. I think we ought to be making a bid for him, I'll be really pissed off if we see Duff and SWP being released by Chavski to **** teams for a pittence when we haven't even made an approach.

Anyone else think we should pursue SWP for a January transfer?

chavs wouldn't let him come to us, that's why they got him in the first place.

His dad should have a word in his shell like, and put him right, if he demanded to come to us, and we actually put in a bid, maybe, just maybe something might happen.

I won't hold my breath though.

He's performed worse than JP since he moved to the Chavs.

JP will come good, sometimes it takes a while to settle in e.g. Babbel, Henry, Finnan. Give him time.

BTW I hope your next employers are more forgiving than you are.

He's not really had much of a chance though has he? He's probably played fewer games for chelsea than Pennant has for LFC but has been there a season longer.

Well I'm not a professional footballer on 20 grand a week. They can be as merciless as they like if they pay me 20 grand a week for 4 years.

Had we gone in for Duff they would have demanded a far higher price for him. Same for SWP.

There is no way even with their arrogance Chelsea would bolster our squad by allowing to him to move to Anfield on the cheap, regardless to what the player might want.

I wonder how they can decide for him where he goes. If we had the highest bid he could come to us if he wanted to.

We have seen this time and again. If a player wanst to leave he leaves. The reason is IMO that even if he is still under contract there are actually human rights to consider. If a player wanted to leave and the club would refuse he could take them to a general court. And a general court would always rule in favor of the player because a contract can never make you a prisoner. He might have to pay the club some comensation and give them a few months notice but he would be abel to leave.

Now, FIFA is terrified of letting a player do this because they want to conrol the game them selves (see the reasent scandal in Itali) so I think the clubs are under pressure to not let that happen.

And yes I would love to see SWP join us in jan. I think he is much better then Pennant.

If a court allowed that then there would be no need for any player to have a contract because they can come and go as they please.

Chelsea dont need the cash and if SWP says he doesnt want to goto West Ham but to Liverpool they can turn around and say fair enough your staying in the reserves until your contract runs out.

I dont think hes been hard done by. He went to Chelsea for the quick success and for the big money. He could hardly be called a prisoner been on a huge salary and massive apartment/house.

Chelsea are totally different ball game to most as for example when we sold Baros we were offered more money for him but he wanted to goto Villa so instead of getting nothing we were forced to accept the players wishes. With Chelsea this problem doesnt exist.

I´m not saying SWP is a prisoner, or any footballer on a huge sallery for that matter.

The fact is with any contract made anywhere in the free world is that it is not without limits. When you say if this was true no one would need a contract that is not true.

A contract does not force you to do a particular job. It states that you will do a certain job for a certain payment. If after you have signd a contract you change your mind or for some reason you can not do the job there has to be a way out because otherwise you are in fact a "prisoner". That way out is usually a compensation payment of some sort and/or a notice of a few weeks or months.

This happens all the time in the general market. A person has been hired by a company and has a contract of say 4 years. This person then gets a better offer from another company and they leave and there simply are rules as to how that happens.

A contract made between a football club and a player that says this player has to play for us for so many years no matter what is IMO simply illegal.

Chelsea want considerably more than the £10mil West Ham are offering. Seeing as we were only prepared to offer 12 in the past I cannot see us getting him.

It would be the same as the Duff scenario i.e. Kenyon and Mourinho would prefer to saw their nads off with a rusty blade than sell to us.
