Thanjk you.

we're getting to a stage where all of them are youth internationals.
It's the one area at Liverpool that I am genuinely excited about.
Me too mate.
I just hope some of them can get a chance, cos im sure there is more than just one player in the reserves that can make it at the top of the game. The longer we go not giving them a game, the more chance we risk loosing them too.

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I posted this in the Insua thread, but its more at its place here.
I wonder when Rafa will give some of the youngsters a real chance.
Ok, there has been occasions when they have been put into the team in the league cup, but still, I feel that in some matches at home it would be nice to give someone like Anderson, Guthrie, Linfield, Antwi, Roque, Peltier a chance. This can also give some first teamers a little breather.
I think it is brilliant that Rafa goes out and scouts the best talent available and gets them in. But it appears like Wenger, and to a lesser extent Fergie, gives youngsters more of a chance than Rafa. I hope that Rafa will play these lads more often, cause otherwise it is no point getting them, and after a while young players will prefer to sign for other clubs.

I think if the team had been playing better we might have seen a few sub appearances from Peltier and Paletta. You also forget how young Momo is.
The problem is that none of the players you mention have been in great form this season for the reserves and Guthrie and Anderson in particular look a little lightweight for the Premier League as yet. If you look at the young players who make it under Wenger they are all incredible atheletes and he has had a long period of time to put in place the systems to bring them through.
The problem with youth systems is that it takes years for them to be built up and at the production end it is very hard to judge when to blood people. I would expect that if Rafa stays we will see more young players come in a few years from now when all our youth teams have been playing his systems such as zonal marking for a number of years and so are better suited to coming in than new players from other teams.

I think the Gala game is the perfect opportunity seeing as the result is meaningless to both teams, so it's really just a friendly, but under competitive conditions.

In that atmosphere it will be extreemly difficult for them to shine though, the team could also end up loosing confidence at a time when it seems we need to get a run of victories going for confidence in future games.
HOme games are best for introducing youngsters especially when we are two goals plus to the good.

I don't really see any point in playing youngsters who are not in contention for the first team but those who are like Paletta and Peltier should definitely be played against Gala, probabably with a few more young/fringe players on the bench. It is probably more useful to give players who are in need of games like Bellamy a chance rather than for blooding youngsters at the minute.

Yeah, id agree with that, wait till we have found our groove, its much easier to blood youngsters in a successfull team than in a team struggling to find their best form, I also think the form of our more experienced players this season has made it tougher for the new arrivals to settle, who were expecting the team to be playing luent football with confidence, instead find the team struggling to find form with alot of criticism.

yeah, our lack of form earlier in the season is a reason for not giving youngsters much chances I guess.
Momo was bought as more of an established player, so I dont count him as a youngster, regardless of his age.

Well, they have to be blooded into the team to get good enough imo.
The experience of playing in the first team is an essential part of their development.
His profile on the offal:
Liverpool midfielder Lee Peltier was rewarded for his excellent consistent form in the reserves in 2006 by signing an extension to his contract, keeping him at Anfield until June 2008.
Peltier is a regular member of the reserve team and is a central midfielder who is a good competitor with an eye for a pass.
He can also play in defence and missed most of the 2004/05 season with a back injury, but made the move to Melwood during the summer of 2005.
The 19-year-old has been playing regular reserve team football this season and is highly rated by the Melwood coaching staff.
"Lee is a good competitor with an eye for a pass and is progressing well," enthused Hughie McAuley.
