He can't take us over like they did - that's my point. They had no choice. We do.Originally posted by PoolG View PostOf course it can.If he is funding his purchase through loans like glazer did than it makes no difference whether our shares are publicly traded or not.The result is still the same, the new owner is massively in debt and so is the club. He#s been bankrupt before so I he wouldn't fill me with confidence.I live with Steptoe.

By "We" I meant LFC not us fans.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostWe don't have the choice - the power is totally with the Moores family. 'We' have to accept he (David) has the best interests of the club (and its fans) at heart.
I believe he does

Well lets hope Moores dosen't agree if it does involve loans being used. This Gillet lad dosen't seem to be overly loaded so I can't see how loans won't be involved which is hardly going to improve our buying power.Originally posted by Mumsafan View PostHe can't take us over like they did - that's my point. I found this in an article on forbes.com.
It seems he likes borrowing against club assets
"Earlier this year, George Gillett, who bought the Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre for $181 million in 2001, borrowed $240 million (most of which was secured by the arena). The financing allowed Gillett to pay himself a $72 million dividend."

That's absolutely right. I do trust Moores, I think he has the best interests of the club at heart. I don't trust any new owner yet, no reason to. And it is the idea of perhaps plunging the club into debt that worries me.Originally posted by PoolG View PostWell lets hope Moores dosen't agree if it does involve loans being used. This Gillet lad dosen't seem to be overly loaded so I can't see how loans won't be involved which is hardly going to improve our buying power.

I just lived in the US for 8 years, and their major sports franchises are often heavily debt ridden and operate in a way that is pretty unusual here, I wouldn't like it to happen here.
That said, I would have been happy with the old Kraft link cos I think Stevie Nichol had sold him the real Anfield vision, and he had a record of stabilizing and building teams in US sports for the long term.
I'm not against new ownership,I think we need the cash. I was just seizing on that one line in the article that said it would be done the way the Glazers did the Scum. Probably jsut adding two and two together to get 17 1/2!

It's possibly because they are both American...
To be honest, there isn't many people out there that can afford to pay cash for a club of our size, therefore, borrowing against our assets is always likely to happen.
When all is said and done, the initial investment is probably going to be near £500m.
Approx £200m for the actually club (with that money going to the Moores family, and maybe a few other shareholders.)
Then Moores sounds like he wants the new owners to guarantee that the new stadium is built - another £180m.
Plus all the other associated costs in doing this kind of deal, and probably a pot of money for the manager to use in the transfer market, and you get your £500m.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

If it's borrowing against assets to build a stadium and buy a bigger squad of better players, then I'll cheer. If, like the Glazers, it's putting the club in debt to clear their other business debts and leaving us short of money for needed investments, that'll be another matter.
If someone comes along with the business nouse to step the club up a couple of gears, and fill the club shop with gear I can actually buy formy kids when I want to, then that will be worth it.
