I've just found this thread and find the whole idea ridiculous. Besides the fact that Alonso is one of the best midfielders in the world, Cahill does two things, scores goals, and fouls people. That's a bit of a limited football player in my eyes. £15m? Don't be daft.

A third thing a Cahill-type player would do is fit into our system easily...wish Alonso did.

The simpleton in me sees Alonso as a very skillful player indeed, the kind of player that we need more of not less. If you want to watch teams kicking lumps out of each other then fine but don't expect everyone to agree I'd rather watch us play pass and move football ..as simple as that may appear to you.

You're assuming that we have finalized our choice of system and that Rafa has a system as opposed to multiple systems one for each type of situation.
