    Mascherano to join us?

    According to the Sunday Mirror.

    HEADING FOR KOP
EXCLUSIVE Liverpool want Hammers' flop Mascherano
By Steve Stammers And Paul Smith

LIVERPOOL are poised to make a January transfer window move for West Ham misfit Javier Mascherano.

The Argentine international midfielder joined West Ham with compatriot Carlos Tevez in the most controversial deal of the August transfer window.

But he has failed to make an impact and with the club now under the ownership of Icelander Eggert Magnusson, Mascherano could be on the move.

His future at West Ham would have been more secure had the consortium headed by Iranian-born businessman Kia Joorabchian won control at Upton Park.

But with Magnusson now in charge, both of the Argentines are concerned about their futures - and Liverpool are keen to sign Mascherano.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez's midfield options have been hit by a spate of injuries to Boudewijn Zenden, Momo Sissoko and Xavi Alonso.

Mascherano would jump at the chance to join Liverpool after a miserable four months at Upton Park.

It has been suggested that because of a FIFA ruling limiting the number of moves a player can make in a 12- month year to two, neither Mascherano nor Tevez could leave West Ham next month.

But if their contracts were cancelled to make the players free agents, nothing could stop them joining another club.

However, West Ham would have to pay Tevez and Mascherano £2million to terminate their contracts at Upton Park.

The figure was written into the initial agreement brokered by the club in the summer.

The arrival of new owner Eggert Mangnusson, who completed his £98million takeover last weekend, could still bring down the curtain on their brief career at the East End club once the transfer window re-opens next month.

Joorabchian Last week met Hammers boss Alan Pardew to discuss the players' future. Pardew believes they are both settling in to life in England and hopes they have a future at Upton Park.

The two players, who arrived as part of the failed takeover of the club by Joorabchian, have pleaded for a stay of execution.

But while they are winning the support of the manager, they need to convince Magnusson, and his Icelandic consortium, that it is a wise move to keep Joorabchian's investment at the club.

Magnusson is looking to initiate a rebuilding programme at the club by handing Pardew extensive funds.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

      I agree with you Al.

Why would West Ham end his contract in January and pay him £2m? They would then need to replace him with someone else and that would cost them even more money.

The only way I can see us move for him is if Sissoko will be out a long time but we now have Carra playing there so I doubt that would happen even then.

Can't see it although I rate him as a very good player.

As for Carra moving into central midfield, I have no problems with that as he can defo do a job there. The problem I have is with Hyppia as one of our centre backs...he's no longer good enough to play regularly in our first 11.

It'll never happen plus I don't really want to be involved in this business where the players are owned by a company and not by the club. Very strange practice.

              Seriously, you think :

              1) West Ham will pay off 2 million pounds just to get rid of him
              2) Liverpool would be his preferred destination
              3) Liverpool would want a player who has totally failed to adapt to the premiership
              4) Rafa would want a player who is not owned by the club but by a company
              5) Rafa wouldn't see fit to spend his money elsewhere.

depends how desperate rafa thinks we'll need a midfielder in Janaury.

seems like a no loss deal if it is remotely true

I wouldn't mind us signing him though.

well i agree on the 2 mill part, why on earth would they give them money to go and make money somewhere else...

the article says he would jump at the chance of playing for us, not that we were his preferred club, theres a big difference...

having struggled for 3 month in the premier league says nothing about his abilities, many players take a while to adapt, but most of the footballing world know his quality...

rafa has no problem what so ever buying a player owned by a company not a club, Palette was owned by a company, but tevez and mascerano are not owned by a company anymore, premier rules do not allow it, they are 100% owned by West Ham. in the contract how ever is a sell on clause witch means about 95% of the transfer fee they get will go back to their former club...

and seriously if rafa got a good price for mascherano, i think he would jump on it, and if he came a free agent he wouldn't think twice about signing him, only problem is neither of these things would happen, they will never give the players money to let them go when they can sell them in the summer, and i doubt they would sell him for under 10 mill tbh...

Oh I know there's a difference, but why would he choose LFC? He could go anywhere in the world.
