Benitez Fears Wright-phillips Is Out Of Reach

    3 December 2006
BENITEZ FEARS WRIGHT-PHILLIPS IS OUT OF REACH
    GALATASARAY v LIVERPOOL Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm
    By Ken Lawrence
RAFA BENITEZ believes Chelsea will price him out of the market for Shaun Wright- Phillips for the second time in 16 months.

The Liverpool boss would love to rescue SWP from his Stamford Bridge limbo and believed he had captured him days before Jose Mourinho made he and Manchester City an offer neither could refuse.

Wright-Phillips is now available again but not, he fears, to potential Premiership and Champions League challengers such as his own club.

West Ham are preparing a bid of around £10million for the winger and Benitez believes Chelsea may well be prepared to accept half of what they paid for him - but would want a lot more if the bid was being made by Liverpool.

Counting imaginary money he explains: "At the end of the day they will want this from us because the player could score goals and create problems for them later.

"But I think they will let the player go to another club where there is no problem for them."

Liverpool return to Istanbul, the scene of their incredible 2005 Champions League Final triumph, already certain to top the group, but Benitez is looking for signs that his players can stabilise a turbulent season. He said: "Maybe our return to Istanbul can be an inspiration to us for the rest of the season."

Seems bizarre that Chavs don't rate West Ham even though they are now flush with cash.

Maybe it's because the owner is not a stranger to Roman

maybe coz the hammers have a lot more rebuilding to do before they can be considered "rivals" compared to us?

i think Rafa will do all he can to get SWP....we know how much he rates him. I cant see Chelski selling to us though, especially if we get investment.
