    Sheik Up

So we covered the usual angle "Who are going to buy?"

But I was thinking about who is this the end of? What players will be out? What players will be relegated to bit-part players?

    Here's what I reckon:

    Finnan
He just doesn't have the attacking flair for a rafa team. Bye Bye.

    Crouch
He's a great mismatch but Kuyt looks like he can hold it up. And finish! Bit part player.

    Sami
Already getting less and less games. Unless we start playing a lot of 352 he'll become a bit part player.

    Kewell
I debated this as there are so few good wingers out there. Bye Bye.

    Realistic?

    Hmmmm

Finnan and Sami will probably be "phased" out and the process has already begun in Sami's case. They are both too good to just bin and I think they'll make good squad players. Our squad currently has quantity but the quality is a bit lacking outside of the first team.

Crouch offers Rafa possibilities, I think he's here for a while, again we need to add quality but Crouch is a good option as backup.

Kewell, well not too many good left wingers about but as he's out of contract in the Summer he may well be binned.

They can all go bar Finnan and Kewell. Keep Finnan for another year or two and Kewell till the end of the season bar he shows us just how good he is. Crotch wont be missed if we get a world class striker that can score. Sami is a modern day legend great defender just getting on a bit last year for him

You'd get rid of Crouch then?

I didn't mention Pennant, would he survive the cull? I think Rafa will give him another year.

Yeah not a big fan of Crouch does a job but not good enough for what we want i think we can get better then him. Nice lad and gives it all for us and has proven to be useful but not vital for us.

I think with Pennant he needs a kick up the ass now and then has shown he has what it rakes but gives me the impression that he made it at 15 and hasnt bothered ever since. If Rafa gets the money he wants to buy his number one targets you could see Pennant off but not for another year he would be handy as a rotational player.

            Yer off yer head man

Finnan is exactly Rafa's type of player - Hard working, can defend and go forward. He can cross a ball ten times better than Pennant and is as solid as a rock.

I really hope we don't make wholesale changes, even if we do have the money. Our progress from last season has been set back a little with the need to assimilate several new faces into the system. We need to get to the stage where we bring in 2 or 3 new faces a year. Huge changes in January or the summer will not do us any favours.
Ideally we'd get Alves and possibly a striker. I think Sami and Robbie are probably getting close to the end of their careers - although I think they could both still play a significant role for us.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

All of a sudden we may have some more money and some people want good players we have shipped out. Total bollocks. Three top quality players - two wide players and a striker is what we should be looking to get ideally. Say Alves was the RM player we wouldn't need to worry about Finnan having no cover, leaving the squad very well balanced IMO. It's all a bit pie in the sky atm anyway.

We need to sign a right winger and someone to replace Robbie, I know that sounds stupid after yesterdays two goals but I doubt that he will get a new deal. We need the right winger in January IMO but if Alves isn't available until the summer then I doubt that Rafa will sign a RW in January.

We will have to wait and see on Bellamy. If he continue to improve then we need to sign someone who won't cause any problem because he is sitting on the bench. If he isn't good enough then we will need to sign a better striker.

Hyypia will probably leave at the end of the season and that means that Rafa either can give Roque or Hobbs a chance in the first team or sign a new central defender.

Peltier looks good enough as backup to Finnan. I would give him a chance instead of signing a new backup to Finnan.

We need Carra to play in the defence so we will need cover for Alonso and Sissoko. Mascherano can cover any of that positions. I know that he hasn't exactly been a success yet but Rafa will probably know how to get the best out of him.

If Kewell won't be fit enough then we will also need to sign a left winger. Gonzalez is getting better and better but we will need cover anyway.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

The more I think about it the more I want Alves and w/Peltier as backup. StevieF can then go or sit on the bench.

Finnan - yes, but he would have done anyway due to his age

Crotch - Rafas a big fan and it's that old cliche of 'he gives you something different' so I can't see him leaving, but he will probably play the majority of his games away from home.

Sami - dito as with Finnan

Kewell - Rafa has already commented that there is a future for Harry at the club. He has been horribly unlucky with injuries but when he plays he does pretty well, towards the end of last season he was one of our best players. We've certainly missed him this season - it would have taken the pressure of Speedy and given him time to settle. Also, the fact that Rafa threw him in at the CL final despite playing so few games (through injury) shows that he must rate him. So I guess, in a long winded way I am saying I think he will stay.

Simply put don't want any of them shipped out, but if we can replace them all with better players then happy days.
