    Cisse on target for Marseille

    Cisse on target for Marseille
By Laurent Picard - Created on 6 Dec 2006

Djibril Cisse has scored his first goal since being loaned out to Marseille from Liverpool.

The French striker broke his leg whilst on international duty in June and has not played for the Marseille first-team this season.

However, he has stepped up his recovery over the past few weeks and took part in a friendly game against fourth division side Martigues on Tuesday.

As well as scoring, Cisse also hit the post with a 25-yard free-kick before being substituted after 60 minutes, and Marseille coach Albert Emon was pleased to see him back in action.

"We have to be patient with Djibril but his performance was encouraging," he said.

"He asked for the ball a number of times, kept the ball a little, had a couple of shots.

"I think he needs that kind of game to be in the best mental state for the future."

Cisse is set to find out when he will be available for first-team selection when he meets his surgeon on Wednesday.

"We have to see how is feeling over the next few days, but we hope the surgeon will give him the green light to return to competition," said Emon.

Meanwhile, trialists Brian Carroll, Mahmane Dembele and Lassine Diarra all played in the game against Martigues.

"It wasn't easy for them to integrate quickly like that, but that is not too bad," said Emon.

    "I have seen interesting things."

Delighted to read of Djibs recovery. I really hope that he goes free of any similar sort of injury for the rest of his career.
I do find the above comments slightly odd though. Sounds like a hospital patient's report - "He sat up in bed today and had a couple of mouthfuls of soup". Maybe Djibs just needed similar encouragement at Anfield. Cheers whenever he called for the ball, rapturous applause when he didn't lose it.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Doesn't surprise me that he has scored already - I really rate the guy and I wish things had turned out differently for him at Anfield because a Kuyt and Cisse combination up front would be mustard!

I think the Milkman predicted at the start of the season that he would score more goals for Marseille this season than Bellend would for Liverpool. That prediction looks like its off to a good start.

It doesn't suprise me he scored because it was against a 4th division side in a friendly.

How people rate him I don't know. I could **** a better first touch than Cisse I think I can finish better than hit it as hard a possible and hope for the best.

Also Milkmans prediction is not that hard, the French league is crap, what will matter is when Bellamy scores more than the 9 league goals Cisse got for us.
Good by Djibs, good luck, your not good enough for the Premier league though.

Hopefully he recovers his Auxerre form for them, means more money for us - though that might turn out to be not as big an issue as it was.

He's probably at his level now. The French league outside of Lyon is pretty mediocre, and the French clubs are awash with money from their recent TV deal.

Those who want him back obviously don't understand the caliber of player required to play for LFC or a top European side.

Yes - I accept his first touch was not always that great.

However, I think it is harsh to blame him for only scoring 9 league goals as he played most of his league games out of position on the wing.

Plus he had hilarious hair - bring back Cisse!

Good luck to him. I wish him all the success in the world and an injury free career. I do not want him back at our club though.

Just bring back his wife, the hairdresser, and we can have a whole team of dodgy haircuts.
