    Pre-Match Build Up - Fulham - 09 Dec 2006

    Anfield
    Saturday, 9 December
    Kick-off: 1500 GMT

    BIG-MATCH FACTS

LIVERPOOL will run out against mid-table Fulham with an air of optimism at Anfield. On the verge of a £450 million takeover, in the last 16 of the Champions League despite the midweek loss in Turkey to Galatasaray, the Reds look to build on last Saturday's first League away win (0-4 at Wigan) and their biggest Premiership victory since last March, in Rafael Benitez' 150th match in charge.

The Merseysiders, who lead the Premiership's "home" table, are eager to extend the second longest unbeaten home run in the highest League to 25 games with a 50th Premier League victory under the current manager.

The Reds are defending an unbeaten home Premiership record against Fulham of three wins and two draws. They've won the last two corresponding fixtures with an aggregate of 8-2.

FULHAM are looking for a 950th post war League win, but hold the joint weakest defence in the highest League.

They've only managed three clean sheets in this League season - one more than West Ham, who have the fewest, and face a Liverpool side who've kept seven, four in a row, and need one more to register 200 in Premier League history.

The Cottagers have never won in any competition at Anfield.

Last season's game really kick-started our season run-in. We'd had a few of bad results (Benfica, Charlton (H), Arsenal (A) and really needed the confidence boost the late goals in this game gave us.
I remember watching us beat Fulham 10-0 in the League Cup in the '80s. I think Steve McMahon of all people scored 4 times that day. The Fulham fans that day started cheering our every touch and booing when their team got the ball.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

When my mate had a little boy 9 years ago this weekend I rushed round there with a Liverpool kit and pyjamas before her blue****e family got here. This weekend I'm taking him to his first game!

            Well in mums.

I've converted my daughters best friend from a blue to a red. Her dad is a massive blue - so the daughter hasn't told him and it's been about a year so far !!

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Jose Reina, Sami Hyypia and Steve Finnan are available again after being rested for the Champions League match in midweek.

Striker Peter Crouch has been troubled with a back problem and may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Fulham left-back Franck Queudrue has recovered from a badly gashed shin and returns to the squad along with central defender Phillippe Christanval.

Luis Boa Morte was a doubt but has recovered from a hamstring strain.

Liverpool (from): Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Luis Garcia, Gerrard, Alonso, Pennant, Fowler, Crouch, Bellamy, Kuyt, Guthrie, Dudek, Paletta.

Fulham (from): Lastuvka, Volz, Knight, Christanval, Pearce, Rosenior, Diop, Brown, Boa Morte, Radzinski, Jensen, McBride, Helguson, John, Routledge, Batista.

              Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:
"We know we have to now concentrate on the Premiership and forget about Europe, apart from waiting for the last-16 draw next week.

"We have to start being consistent in the league and to manage more away victories

"Now Europe is out of our minds we can work hard on correcting our league form."

              #
              Fulham boss Chris Coleman:
"In our last two away games we haven't looked resilient like we did earlier this season and that's what we've got to get back to on the road.

"We've shown we can beat the best and lose to the guys at the bottom.

"This season we want to progress from what we did last year. We finished 12th, which is very respectable for us, but we want to better that."

                So the team could be

                Pepe

                Finnan
                Carra
                Agger
                Riise

                Pennant
                SG
                Xabi
                Garcia

                Kuyt
                Bellamy

Subs: Dude, Sami, Paletta, Guthrie, God. ( I read that Crouch still has a back problem)

Due to injuries we are running out of possibilities
