I am not really talking about playing a small, pacy striker, just one that doesn't drop so deep that he doesn't get into the box in time. With the 4231 and SG behind the striker that isnt so much of a problem as with SG there, also linking up play, as well as the striker, more attacking players will get into the box as they are higher up the pitch...(wonderful sentence that...)

Bizzarly I have never seen SG have a good game and the attacking midfielder behind a lone striker. He should be mad good at it, but I've never seen him deliver there. The attacking midfielder behind two strikers, yes, very effective, but not behind the one.

Anyway, going back to your point - see what you mean. Kuyt would be ideal then? Still think with two excellent wingers we would do well with Crotch up front on his own.

Yes, Kuyt appears suited to such a role. Still, we are just guessing here, and Crouch could work as sole striker...

I think SG needs to start his runs from deeper in midfield, and that this might be the deal for him not funcitoning optimally behind the striker.
