    Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics

    Proof that statistics often make no sense whatsoever...

    From the offal:

    Actim Index reports

    It finishes with the following information about how our players rank on the Actim list:

    Steve Finnan (19th and 5th highest ranked defender)

    Jose Reina (40th and 5th highest ranked goalkeeper)

    Jamie Carragher (43rd and 14th highest ranked defender)

    Steven Gerrard (55th and 15th highest ranked midfielder)

    Dirk Kuyt (70th and 16th highest ranked striker)

    Xabi Alonso (72nd and 19th highest ranked midfielder)

    Daniel Agger (86th and 32nd highest ranked defender)

    If you can give me 14 midfielders in the Premiership who are better than our captain, then you're a better man than I.

    Ditto, Agger (- 31 better defenders better than him this season??) and also possibly Kuyt - are there 15 strikers in the premiership that you'd rather have in your team than our Dirk.

    But as supporters we often let our opinions and feelings get in the way.

    The stats state what the player has actually done.

    Also the stats are more of a reflection of form and not skill or ability.

        It's not based on reputation. Stevie G's form was pretty pap for the majority of the season

          How many matches have we lost with Agger on the team? He was not playing during the Mad Travel Disease. Still he is 86 on the list and only the 32th best defender?!

          Seriously - how many PL matches have we lost with him on the team???Zero? One? One goal and two assists and ace flawless performances all around. I don't get it...

          Schevchenko is 21 and Essien is 51?! Wtf is going on? Essien isn't even a top 5 player for Chelsea in that table!

            Just ignore it mate. That Actim Index thing is the biggest pile of statistical bollocks I’ve ever seen.

              As everyone seems to have been saying for the whole season, Sheva is a shadow of his former self, yet as CAD stated, he's rated 21st on here.

              If the rankings are not based on reputation, how come he is 21st and Frank Lampard is 7th?

              Hell, Andy Johnson is 16th and he was out injured for ages.
