We punched a bit above our weight last season.

How often do we win 11 in a row, or whatever it was? We did it, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

We'll see. Look at our record recently and it's not been too far from a run of consecutive wins (all competitions). We had a very tough start to our season and with new players being bedded in, it's contributed to the gap widening at the top and it's no reflection on our true ability. Early January will confirm if we're really back or not and if Rafa's early season rotation has served him well.

Chelsea had a lot of new players to bed in during JM's first season, didnt they?

They still won the title. The difference is their players were (and generally are, barring the odd exception) better than ours.

But the point you're missing is that, rare shocks aside, the better sides generally win and the worst sides more often lose.

Of course there's a 'rule' - the best sides occupy the top few places in a league table and win more than the others, that's beyond debate.

Yes mate, but you're judging it on 18 games and as we all know that means **** all, unless you're saying Bolton are the 5th best side in the league and Portsmouth are 6th

Oh, and Reading (8th) have won the same number of games as Arsenal (4th)

So the point is, you can't judge anything based on less than half a season.

I didnt say THAT was punching above our weight. But why not look at the facts? How many points did we amass last season? How often do we reach such a tally? You tell me.

I'm calling it as it is and i dont enjoy doing so, but it's the reality at the moment. We're all hoping it improves.

We should copy Chelsea's passion, commitment and hunger for us to progress to the next level. That's what separates us from being up there.

Scum and Chav's will always be ahead of us re this "mentality" until we have won the PL or have players that have won a league.
The only 1st teamer is Rafa

Chavs brought in a couple of the Porto team who had won the league, along with anyone else they fancied.

Scum have backroom staff and players in a abundance that have won the PL this gives them the bounce back ability.
Until the likes of nevile, scholes and giggs retire they'll have players that can make the sum of the team greater than the individual.

We have players on thier day or for a few months that can produce but maybe not the belief to do it week in week out for a whole season when things aren't going our way.

We are missing winners or league winners to be precise, start of the season we probably think we can win, the other 3 have players who have.

I agree that half a season doesnt tell the whole story, that's clear enough.

But in the majority of cases, it gives you a fair idea. With regards to Bolton, aside from the top 4 and maybe Spurs, teams who occupy places 6 to about 14 are much of a muchness. They'll swap places from one season to the next, so it's hard to say who is, say, the 6th best side in the country.

As for us, i'm not saying anything particularly controversial, i'm just saying there's an obvious gap in class between us and Chelsea/United. Of course there's 20 games to go and i'd love to see us win them all.

I sincerely hope i'm wrong, but at the moment, it hardly seems radical to say that we'll probably finish 10-15 points off top spot and maybe 7-12 or so, from 2nd place.

Rafa's strategy with rotating players is geared to get the best out of the squad in the last few months of the season. Let's see how Giggs and Scholes are doing come March
