    Dirk Kuyt

Apologies if this has been discussed in another thread – I’ve had little or no chance to keep up over the weekend.

Is anyone else worried about Dirk Kuyt’s goalscoring prowess?

He’s clearly a good player. Strong, effervescent and intelligent…but is he a clinical finisher? Based on the evidence presented so far, the answer would have to be no. I think many of us thought we were getting a deadly goalscorer.

It’s too early to make any firm judgements about Kuyt, IMO. He may just be lacking a bit of confidence in front of goal currently, I dunno – I wonder if he ever missed so many chances in Holland? He could have had five on Saturday and there was a time when I feared his spurned opportunities would come back to bite us on the arse.

Personally I’d go with Crouch & Bellamy for the next couple of games and give Dirky boy a rest. I know I’m in a minority here, but I don’t think there’s anything between Crouch & Kuyt. Yes, Dirk is a little more mobile and has a touch more pace, but Crouch offers us just as much. His instant contribution on Saturday should serve as a reminder that Kuyt should not be guaranteed a place.

I think that he's still settling in to be fair.

You can count the number of deadly finishes on one hand though, there is probably only one in the premiership at the moment....

Kuyt is in desperate need of a goal to fly in off his arse or his nose or summat. He`s starting to snatch at chances now, his overall contribution to games is still high though. Kuyt is not a natural finisher, so has to be at the peak of his game to be banging them in (unless hes playing in the piss-poor dutch league).

His overall game reminds me of mark hughes, who was never a natural finisher either. One will go in for him soon though, and then he will go on a roll i reckon, cos hes still getting into all the right positions

good call.Very Similar to Sparky. Think Kuyt does deliver more to the team in turns of work effort. although Crouch can defo count on himself as unlucky as not to be playing

            I'd probably agree with that.

Agreed mate. There’s a few comparisons around….Shearer, Keegan, but the most accurate IMO is Mark Hughes – which is a pity as I HATED Hughes. His style of play reminds me very much of the ex-Manc scumbag, although Kuyt is obviously far, far less dirty than Hughes was. How many did Hughes used to get every season?

He can indeed, although I’d dispute that Kuyt works any harder than Crouch. They both have an irrepressible work-rate.

He has but he’s obviously not what you’d call a deadly finisher. If he’s one-on-one with the keeper, you’d back him to miss every time. He is, however, scoring a lot of spectacular lashes from distance. He seems particularly adept at the swivel on a sixpence and shot…almost Rushie-esque at times.

                      Agree with your assessment Shags.

I said as much in the 'Ratings' thread for the Charlton game.

Kuyt is a very hard working striker. He also helps out very much in defence and that results in that he is playing to deep IMO.

If he played higher up the pitch and didn't worked his socks off then he would probably score more goals but we would also concede more goals at the same time.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He is high up the pitch, hes getting into scoring positions left right and centre. He just keeps missing them, and it is starting to play on his mind a bit now. Once he gets a tap in it will be a different story.

Kuyt is not as clinical as we had hoped. The only LFC player I have seen in recent times who looked less effective is Crouch last season in the PL. (And this season).

                            Kuyt and Bellers for me

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

Until we get someone better than bellamy, I would always play him, to use his pace. Next to him, I would rotate between kuyt and crouch, at the moment I would play crouchie as the dirkster is having a confidence crisis in front of goal for shure
